Default Interview Ramon Dekkers: 'I think I would have beaten Buakaw'

that title might have gotten some of your attention

Came across this interview, it's from this month and haven't noticed it anywhere else. A nice read, although as often has happened, it's quite biased and the myth of the 'hometown thai favored decision' is still kept alive (and he doesn't need it... )

oh well, just read http://www.metroeireann.com/index.ph...=736&Itemid=26

The bias aside I think Ramon could have. People forget Ramon often fought top tier Stadium ranked fighters. Buakaw only had an Omnoi title prior to K-1 MAX.

I don't think it'd be for certain victory for Ramon but he could have beaten Buakaw. Buakaw fights a power and speed game for the most part. He was never known as a slick finesse Thaiboxer. Ramon is a power fighter too. A prime Ramon Vs. prime Buakaw is a virtual pick 'em imo.

Yeah, but Buakaw was also a Stadium ranked fighter. Ramon never won that elusive Stadium title either. Buakaw for whatever reason is dogged for that, but it wasn't like he was some scrub - no, far from it. The craziest part is of course when people act like there are a legion of better Thai fighters than him at welter and super-welter.

Buakaw pre-MAX or at least his 2004 incarnation would probably frustrate Ramon with his clinching. Kobayashi was stalking him all night in his fight and Buakaw would just cling on to him as soon as he wanted to do something.

And then, how would the current Buakaw fare? Now some might claim, well Masato knocked him down so I'm sure Ramon could as well but they're totally different fighters. And Buakaw and his camp are smart enough to come up with a specific gameplan.

Buakaw by brain exploding KO.

Buakaw pre K-1 MAX I would agree. Clinch to frustrating elbow drilling beat down. Buakaw had great elbows back in the days of Isuzu tournament and before.

Nowadays? I am not sure but Buakaw now is far too big for Ramon Dekkers in his prime. I too would tend to think Buakaw wins but I think Ramon did have a viable chance of winning in his prime time days.

I'm still picking Buakaw by spine ripping fatality in this fantasy match up.

Feeling pretty confident after the Akiyama/Kang fight.

He's an Ihara gym trainer I think. I beleive K-1 uses him quite a lot to scout Thai talent. When he was a Raja champion he was a welterweight.

That's Noppadet2, he was also a super-lightweight champion at Raja. He was given the nickname "eternal champion" in Japan because of his long reigns.
