It's quite clear now that something will happen on NYE. I think the likely scenario that has happened is that WVR with Ishii couldn't get a deal for his NYE fight, so Don Quijote, main sponsor of SENGOKU, jumped ship to FEG. That's how simple it might be. However, there are some questions on my mind.
Will SENGOKU minus Don Quijote continue after this but be a smaller event? What will J-Rock (management company of Yoshida, Nakamura, etc., a lot of the J-Rock people are WVR staff) do? Did WVR really have no idea that Don Quijote would jump ship when they entered the new Martial Arts Federation and did other such things? Or are WVR staff also following to FEG? If only Don Quijote jumped ship, can Yoshida vs. Ishii happen at Dynamite!! just like that without any talk/agreement with WVR? Will Don Quijote continue supporting the small organizations in Japan? Pancrase would probably be dead now without Don Quijote's help. Real Sports wrote an article yesterday that Masato's retirement might be a lie and that there will be a "retirement withdrawal angle" at some point. Masato not having fought Petrosyan before retiring is a good excuse for him coming back. Also, Masato announced his retirement on April 1st this year. It makes you wonder about Japanese MMA and how much is true. Is Petrosyan really injured? They said that Mousasi got injured before the Super Hulk semifinals, but some people said that he didn't participate because of money issues. Last edited by Shiruba; 14th November 2009 at 02:11 PM. |

It is kinda funny in that there is so much drama going on, there is so little interest in the outcome compared to when PRIDE was around. I did read something Arnold had supposedly written about the antics, and got quite a laugh over his informed opinion.
Ishii (K-1s) has been saying for quite some time that WVR and DREAM should work together....perhaps one of the reasons it hasn't worked until now. And really, the fact no one would pay to watch the other Ishii vs Yoshida on free to air TV shows just how interested people are these days in kakutougi here. Masato's situation is something a couple vet press discussed backstage before the MAX GP took place. Masato does want to retire, and does want Souwer as his opponent....but he is also the sort that wants to silence his critics by facing the #1 guy...win or lose. Hence, a lot of speculation over whether he would be (under his own pressure) forced back to face Petro. |

When he was interviewed recently and they asked him about this "injury" he just looked like he was lying so much, his shifty eyes and tone of his voice and a little smile.

DQ practically owns much of Japanese MMA now, including SENGOKU. You could even say that Kinoshita is almost irrelevant now. If they "jump ship," that only means that they decided not to work closely with J-Rock.
It will all be clear soon I think. |

As for this NYE business, I've really enjoyed what SENGOKU have been doing, hope it doesn't all go to shit. |

It seems that Kokuho & his peeps could only get a frame on TV Tokyo on Jan 3rd and they would have to pay for it so DQ pres Yasuda got angry.

I'll be sad if Sengoku really folds. It was good while it lasted I guess.

It was officially announced that the NYE event will be FEG/DREAM + SRC. SRC's Kokuho was absent in the conference.
