Against my better judgement I actually just finished watching Samuel Peter vs. Peter Maskaev. While they were throwing powerful shots the snail's pace and overall unimpressive nature of Maskaev's performance made me regret doing so. Peter's TKO doesn't mean much to me considering how shot Maskaev looked. I'm happy that he finally got the fight after Oleg ducked him for so long but I seriously doubt I'll be watching any heavyweight bouts any time in the near future. At least until David Haye gets himself an interesting opponent.

I don't know, the Diaz vs. Campbell fight, which preceded it, was a crazy fight, and I kind of enjoyed the contrast between the two fights, meaning busy brawl vs. one-punch-and-lights-out sort of thrill. They were two entirely different sports. Jorge Linares was the guest in the broadcast, and he seems to have enjoyed it.

At least, it was miles better than the Klitchko one...

I don't mind the lack of pace in HW fights. HW boxing is a borderline freak show anyway, and I personally just enjoy it for what it is.

The weird thing is HW boxing isn't supossed to be freak show. Its suppost to be the biggest skill guy on the planet. Lewis, Holyfield, Tyson, Holmes, Ali, Frazier, etc. Those were skill guys. Peter throws big, but he misses so many shots it almost seems as if he isn't a trained boxer.

I do want the titles to unify though and I think that if Peter doesn't fight Klitchko next he should fight Chagaiv.

I think Haye would beat him though.

Diaz/Cambell was a fun fight.

I haven't seen the fight but as an Oleg fan I'm glad he managed to hurt Peter at points. He should probably fight McCline and then retire, he's won a belt you have to be happy with that.

Vitali beats Peter sooooo easily.

miscmisc, freak shows are fine with me (like I said in another post if Tyson/Holyfield III becomes a reality I will watch it) but Peter/Maskaev was supposed to have substance. The heavyweight division is such a bore to me right now that I can hardly bear it. Perhaps if I got to see Diaz/Campbell first that would've helped placate me but since I wasn't able to watch the fights live I'm relying on the internet and I haven't been able to get Diaz/Campbell til just today.

Lord Gaul, you consider Frazier a "skill" guy? Smokin Joe gets ALL the respect from me but I never thought of him as being particularly skilled as I did tough and determined...

Toffa, unfortunately I agree with your assessment that Vitali beats Peter. I'd rather see Peter fight Wlad but oh well.

Most deffinetly I see him as a skill guy. How many fighters, let alone heavyweights, do the butterfly. Going into the first Ali fight, he said his style was the only thing on his mind. He would keep his head moving and slip punches while trying to land big hooks. He would take two punches to land one counter left hook. He was truely a master boxer who is credited more as being the toughest SOB to put on a pair of gloves. To me I would add that toughness to a skilled opening fighter with a great left hook.

Thats just me though, many may disagree.

Fight could have gone either way.
It was funny hearing the guys in Maskaev's corner saying that Peter has no chin.

What was up with all the punches behind the head anyway??
