I'm not a mod or anything but it gets confusing for me to keep track of subjects when there are discussions going on in threads not related to the original topic. So here's a post where folks can post more about Duddy's upcoming fight if they're so inclined.

I thought this thread was made to bitch about his recent entry into several Top 10 p4p lists....which is IN-F'N-SANE! I love Irish fighters in New York as much as the next guy, but c'mon...really?

Box rec has him as # 11 right now.

Ranked that high? Judging from the last couple rounds of his fight that were aired live on RTL last saturday he looked like crap!

If Duddy fights the same way he fought on Saturday against someone like Pavlik - he will get KILLED within the first 2 rounds... going down at least once in the 1st

LOL, no, I just made it cuz his name kept popping up in other threads so I figured it'd be easier to keep track of if he got his own post. Still scratching my head about The Ring ranking...I wonder if Golden Boy Promotions has plans for a bout between one of their fighters and Duddy, that could explain why they did that. Even if they had nothing to do with the ranking it's suspicions like these that made their acquisition of Ring bad news.

Good point. The boy does have old school drawing power and the Raging Bull mentality that fans like to see. The "Gatti" aura could pay big dividends if he is matched up well. I guess I am saying that he needs his own Ward (Of course this is who he is often compared to), but never to be matched up with a Floyd, especially before he can make a few ends for himself and his handlers.

Rafael's Scorecard from ESPN.com
=====================
Middleweight
John Duddy W10 Walid Smichet
Scores: 98-92 (twice), 95-95
Records: Duddy, 24-0, 17 KOs; Smichet, 17-4-3, 13 KOs
Rafael's remark: Duddy, the darling of the thousands of Irish fans who turned out to see him, blew a June 7 shot at middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik with this terrible performance. Duddy won't be able to fight Pavlik because he suffered multiple deep cuts and will be out for awhile. He was stitched up after the fight; his face was a mess from eating hundreds of punches. He also got a gift from the judges. The 98-92 scorecards are a joke. I had Smichet winning 96-94, and I was not alone among my ringside colleagues. Consider that Smichet easily won the first two rounds, especially the first (in which he landed a frightening 52 of 108 blows, mostly clean right hands). He clearly won other rounds, as well. Bottom line is that Duddy was further exposed. He's an exciting fighter and seems like an awfully good guy, but he has no semblance of defense. Pavlik, with his awesome right hand, might have destroyed him if they had been fighting. Pavlik promoter Bob Arum and manager Cameron Dunkin were ringside and watched that potential fight go up in smoke for the time being. Arum needs to find another opponent for Pavlik in June but said he would revisit the Duddy fight for later in the year when he's healed up. Duddy has no chance if they ever meet.

Yeah, 98-92 was simply ridiculous. I'm not an expert on boxing, but how was that possible? Smichet only took TWO rounds? How? Didn't Smichet dominate in the first four or so rounds? Since when clean shots count less than blocked shots in boxing?
I felt ill when I heard the scores.

Crap decisions like that are one of the biggest issues that boxing faces in terms of gaining more interest/legitimacy amongst the casual fans. I have SO MANY friends who used to be boxing fans but now dismiss it because they assume the fights are fixed after having sat through so many fights with bogus decisions.

Duddy has long ways to go if he wants to fight Pavlik. His defense was really bad.

I thinks this fight showed (unfortunately) that duddy is just a pipe dream at this stage in his career I dont see him fixing his weaknesses in defense.
