This is a massive fight for British boxing. These two are both huge punchers for cruiserweight and this really should be a fantastic fight. Warren's promoting it and it'll be shown on Setanta.

This is gonna happen at the O2 arena in London which holds about 20,000. This was the same venue as UFC 75.

The hypes starting to build...

Frank Warren believes David Haye v Enzo Maccarinelli on 8 March will be the biggest all-British clash since Nigel Benn fought Chris Eubank in 1993.

Haye, the WBC and WBA cruiserweight champion, and Maccarinelli, the WBO title-holder, will put their belts on the line at the O2 Arena in London.

"This is the biggest since Benn-Eubank, without a doubt," said promoter Warren.

"We've got the two biggest punchers in world boxing facing each other - we're going to see something very special."

Nice. The O2 seems like a pretty cool venue, at least from watching UFC 75.

Yeah, it's a nice arena. What makes this even more interesting is it's in Haye's area South London, so the support for him is gonna be huge.

Yet another reason not to cancel my Setanta subscription.

Only a few days to go!!! This'll be on Showtime in the US for any Americans that are interested.

I can't wait for this one, I reckon Maccarinelli will give him a lot of trouble but Haye'll get the knockout in the later rounds.

The hype's been building up and Haye even commented on the Klitschko fight

Watching it, I was ashamed to be a boxer. It was one of the worst shows of a boxing match I've ever seen in my life. If that's the best I've got to worry about then I might be heavyweight champion quicker than I think.

Yeah, Showtime seems to be making a great comeback after a dismal 2007. After giving us Vazquez/Marquez III last weekend this weekend they come back with Haye/Maccarinelli this weekend. That will surely be a helluva lot better than HBO's offering of Oleg Maskaev/Samuel Peter which will be airing head to head!

Should be a great fight for sure. So hard to call a winner since Haye has openly admitted since the Mornmeck fight that he feels empty at cruiserweight and Maccarinelli looked really sharp in his last fight.

**edit**

If you've got 9mins to spare this should get you in the mood...

Well it's all kicking off.

The final head-to-head press conference was held today but there was a bit of drama as Haye didn't turn up. Basically it was scheduled for 2pm but got pushed forward to 12.30, only Haye didn't turn up til 2pm when it had all finished. Warren was really pissed off and has put in a complaint to the British Boxing Board of Control.

Maccarinelli acted with real class as usual and even mentioned MMA during the press conference. On a side note a mate of mine who trained at Gracie Barra Swansea said Maccarinelli trains a bit off BJJ and he's quite the MMA fan.

Haye sez it was a plot to make him lose sleep:

Yep, Haye's been somewhat suspicious of the Enzo camp and apparently changed location every 3 days when training in Miami as he thought they were spying on him.

TBH we could have done with all this a bit earlier, the good British public love a bit of drama with their boxing :)

Haye is as tough as they come. He proved he is the best cruiserweight in the world in decisive fashion. A second round KO send the message to the world that he is going to be a entertaining heavyweight when he moves up.

Well the fight was fun for as long as it lasted. My only complaint would be how long it took the ref to call a knockdown but in the end it doesn't matter as I don't think the end result would've been any different.

I wonder who Haye's first heavyweight fight will be against.

This'll actually be his second (he beat Tomasz Bonin with 3 knockdowns in the 1st rd) but yeah it'll be interesting to see how they approach his heavyweight career. With his footwork and hand speed he really could be succesful in a currently poor division.

Aubtin, did you make it to the event? I was just wondering if you got to see the fight and I was going to ask how big it was in England? The hype kind of reminded me of Mayweather/Hatton. You got the homebread guy who trains at home and loves to be around kids and his family at the gym. And you got the guy who moves to Miami to train who is more flashy and brags about sleeping with peoples girlfriends. I was just curious how was you perspective of the fight.

You make a good point in that it had everything it needed to get the public interested. Unfortunately it lacked a really big build up, something like a 24/7 show would've gone down a treat here, and it was on a subscription sports channel not terrestrial TV. This is what stopped the fight from being huge. Don't get me wrong it was a big fight that had a lot of people intereseted but it had all the ingredients to be even more.

Another problem was it was on at 2am. I didn't go to see it live but went out for some drinks with friends and planned to come back to watch it. Long story short I got wrecked last night and watched it this morning with a hangover :)

Yeah I forget that they have to have the fights late at night. I hope you enjoyed it despite being a little uneasy when watching it.
