Arthur Abraham comes back and leaves so to speak. For the first time Arthur leaves Germany to take on Wayne Elcock. Arthur has always impressed me when his IBF middleweight title bid began. He's left an impressive list of wins over dangerous opponents. Arthur's best known scalp is perhaps over Edison Miranda who broke his jaw in 2 places, gave Arthur 5 shots to the kidmakers, an intentional headbutt and still Arthur won.
If you missed that one may be you remember Arthur's Excorcist-like, skull twisting TKO over Khoren Gevor. That was an inspiring moment of Armenian on Armenian violence. It was a scary crystalline moment when one has a clear understanding of how far Arthur has come and how truly impressive he's become in an extremely dangerous profession.
Since 2005 after two defenses of his WBA Intercontinental strap and three for his IBF World title it dawned on me how little press and attention this guy gets.
Now Arthur and Wayne will meet in Switzerland to decide who's the champ. This particular bout coming up with Wayne Elcock has some decent shine to it. Elcock is the British Boxing Board middleweight champ and he's sort of at the crossroads Arthur was himself not too long ago. He's also beaten Howard Eastman. At 33 Elcock needs to hasten his ascent and get a bonafide world title. For Arthur it's basically a getting ready for prime time show as he wants to move to American cards next.
Thoughts?
