Arthur Abraham comes back and leaves so to speak. For the first time Arthur leaves Germany to take on Wayne Elcock. Arthur has always impressed me when his IBF middleweight title bid began. He's left an impressive list of wins over dangerous opponents. Arthur's best known scalp is perhaps over Edison Miranda who broke his jaw in 2 places, gave Arthur 5 shots to the kidmakers, an intentional headbutt and still Arthur won.

If you missed that one may be you remember Arthur's Excorcist-like, skull twisting TKO over Khoren Gevor. That was an inspiring moment of Armenian on Armenian violence. It was a scary crystalline moment when one has a clear understanding of how far Arthur has come and how truly impressive he's become in an extremely dangerous profession.

Since 2005 after two defenses of his WBA Intercontinental strap and three for his IBF World title it dawned on me how little press and attention this guy gets.

Now Arthur and Wayne will meet in Switzerland to decide who's the champ. This particular bout coming up with Wayne Elcock has some decent shine to it. Elcock is the British Boxing Board middleweight champ and he's sort of at the crossroads Arthur was himself not too long ago. He's also beaten Howard Eastman. At 33 Elcock needs to hasten his ascent and get a bonafide world title. For Arthur it's basically a getting ready for prime time show as he wants to move to American cards next.

Thoughts?

AA is super talented, but to be honest, outside of Miranda(who beat him if you take away the fouls) he really hasn't fought anyone and this is not a name that screams for the fight world to pay attention to him.

I've seen that fight and if you take away the fouls I'm sure there also would have stood another AA. I remember AA mentioning in an interview on German Television about a week after the fight his jaw left him in excruciating pain making it hard to concentrate in the ring, but like his trainer taught him "A world-class fighter must be able to deal with world-class pain".

Pretty much. Arthur won that anyway you stack it with or without fouls. As for quality of opponents Miranda was also Pavlik's biggest test prior to Taylor. Both Taylor and Pavlik are now moving up in weight so really Arthur is the only remaining middleweight champion of note.

DLH is going down to 147. Mayorga is going down to 147. Mosley is moving down to 147. Winky said he may move up. Taylor fought two blown up middles. There isn't anyone all that relevant in that class except Arthur at this point who is making moves to get bigger marquee fights.

Arthur truly is world class whether he's celebrated in America or not. I expect Wayne to come out fighting but Arthur is my bet for a win there too. At least that's how I see it.

I haven't heard of Elcock at all and only seen clips of Abraham. Looking at their records on boxrec didn't do me much good either although it looks like Abraham's resume is a bit better.

The one common opponent they have is Eastman, regarded I guess at this point as a more fringe contender. Though he showed signs of thunder in himself the better competition got to him.

I had it 7-5 to Miranda without the fouls so I had it one round up for AA without. It was a damn good fight no matter how you saw it. I do see the middleweight division going donw though with everybody leaving it.
