The swan song of Vargas is in sight now. Once Vargas fixed his alleged stomach issues he returned to mocking Mayorga for being a tub 'o fat.

From fightnews.com

Vargas rips Mayorga!
The trash talking between Fernando Vargas and Ricardo Mayorga - already high enough to be picked up on Richter scales along the San Andreas Fault in Southern California - appears to be escalating in advance of their "Day After Turkey Day" showdown as evidenced by Vargas' comments at Thursday's media workout that included this blast: "I don’t like anything about Mayorga. He has a face only a mother gorilla would love. I’m going to beat the sh*t out of him. He’s a stupid fighter. He doesn’t get it. Mayorga says that I’m going to run. I’m not going to run. He’s a stupid a**. I’m going to knock him out. He’s going to feel the heat. I’ve never really hated anyone this much since I fought Ross Thompson. Mayorga has a big mouth and I’m going to shut it for him."

The day after Thanksgiving is going to be very interesting.

Oh and Vargas looks a lot better in his current photo:

Does anyone actually give a darn about this fight?

What is the point ?

I will not be watching.

I am not going to lie. I'll get it.

Not because of the awesome boxing it'll bring but for the human story and drama behind. Plus varagas is never fighting again after this.

I'm not going to believe that this is Fernando's last fight until five years have passed without him entering the ring. I'll probably end up watching this at a sports bar since I doubt any of my friends will wanna chip in for the ppv.

Vargas is my favorite boxer. I will be watching for sure. Infact I can't wait for this fight.

5 or 6 years ago this would be a sure shot buy for me. Sadly I have a feeling the trash talk will be more entertaining than the fight itself. I hope I'm wrong. Fernando has never been the same since his fight with Tito (which is still one of my all time favorite fights).

I think this is gonna be a helluva fight to watch. These guys will come out, gas out..throw until they drop. Mayorga will smoke some cigs afterwards and it's all good. They are pure boxing entertainment. Title contenders? Not in a long time if ever. But charismatic and entertaining enough to please the fans and sell tickets and just maybe..PPV buys.

It'll do excellent business. I have no doubts about that.

More taunts of fatty by Mayorga and a new plexiglass shield to keep the monkeys from one another. This is going to be hilarity. It's awin/win fight. Whoever loses we win.

Vargas has not truly looked good since his fight with Oscar.

The Matador is a master at getting under people's skin :-)

Ok, so I went around to the different sites reading quotes from the press conference. I've officially bought into the hype now. Below is just a small portion of the trash talk:

http://maxboxing.com/Fischer/Fischer112007.asp

Mayorga, as usual, set the drama off with his insults.

Vargas briefly left his table while Mayorga’s trainer addressed the media, which provided the pesky Nicaraguan with the opening for this line when it was his turn to take the microphone:

“Look! Vargas is already running from me!” he said. “But he and his boys remembered that he still had to talk, so fatty’s coming back.

“Hey, I heard your best friend called up Jenny Craig to help your fat ass lose weight!

“I want everyone to know that the main reason I’m going to knock him out Friday night is because I just don’t like him. He changed the weight for this fight from 162 pounds to 166 after he got sick, but it doesn’t matter what weight we fight at. The result will be the same. Fernando, I’m going to hit you like a man and that’s something you’ve never felt in your entire career.

“And when I knock you out the Mexicans in the audience will stand up and applaud me because I’m going to kick your fat ass like a real Mexican.”

[This comment brought jeers from the Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in the arena seats – most of whom were family, friends and fans of Vargas.]

“Just you know, I put down $1 million on myself to win by knockout in Las Vegas,” Mayorga continued.

“If you stand and fight me like a man, I’ll knock you out in one round. If you run like a little Barbie Doll, I’ll get you in three or four rounds.

“I only weigh 156 pounds right now but I’m a lot stronger than you. Even when you try to talk back to me, I can hear how heavy your tongue is. I’m faster than you and I’m not showing punch-drunk effects like you.”

[At this point, Vargas, who had been trying to sneak in insults during Mayorga’s stream-of-conscious tirade, ripped off his loose-fitting shirt to reveal what looked like a well-conditioned upper body.]

Mayorga didn’t skip a beat.

“There it is! There’s the fat! Show everyone your fat body.”

“I got your fat one right here,” Vargas retorted as he grabbed his crotch while standing on his table. “The eyes don’t lie! I can see that you’re scared of me now that you see that I’m in shape!”

And then the “flex-off” ensued. Mayorga took off his jacket and shirt, sauntered up to the dais on his side of the plexiglass and flexed his biceps to Vargas, who charged to his side of the transparent divider and did his best Hulk Hogan imitation, sparking cheers and chants from his family and fans.

“Mira! Mira, Cabrón!” (loose translation “Look! Look at me, f__ker!”) a possessed-looking Vargas yelled to Mayorga as he relentlessly flexed his arms and chest. “¿Qué pasó, chango? (loose translation: “What’s up, monkey?” or “What’s up, dude?”)

The two fighters went back and forth verbally for at least 10 minutes, flexing their muscles and spitting Spanish “malas palabras” like “Mierda” and “Maricón” until Kathy Duva of Main Events (Vargas’s promoter) took the microphone and hollered “Time out, folks! Can we please stop the insults and get back to the press conference?”

“Why?” asked MaxBoxing’s Steve Kim, who sat in the audience seats next publicist Norman Horton and trainer Shadeed Saluki. “This is great stuff; this is boxing. You don’t get this kind of stuff with the NBA. With the plexiglass between them they’re like two unruly hockey players who were sat in side-by-side penalty boxes.”

both mayorga and vargas weighed in at 164. main undercard support for this is Kermit Cintron defending his IBF 147 lb title against Jesse Feliciano in what is a total mismatch. Good 154lb scrap between ex champs Roman Karmazin and Alejandro Garcia also is on the card as well as Jason Litzau against a nondescript mexican opponent

picks for this fight? im going with Vargas TKO 10 as i think he is the least shot of the two. Now if he goes toe to toe with Ricardo instead of boxing, he could easily lose.

Soulrise

From the pictures I'm not too impressed with either fighter's conditioning but I'll go along with Vargas as the pick assuming he's 100% recovered.

If Vargas is healthy, he will beat Mayorga.
Those two are crazy, especially Mayorga.

He should go to pro-wrestling and just let him talk.

For some reason I am leaning towards Mayorga via not having to lose 100 pounds and being more active.

US Tomato Can
23rd November 2007, 07:08 PM
Anyone else?

I am gonna be bold and say Mayorga via stoppage. I've been having a lot of luck with predictions/bets lately so I am gonna go ahead and put my neck on the block and call it.

Oh and lest I forget the rest of a pretty interesting undercard:

Fernando Vargas 164-Ricardo Mayorga 164
Kermit Cintron 146 3/4-Jesse Felicaino 147
Roman Karmazin 152 3/4-Alejandro Garcia 154
Fernando Angulo 135-Damian Fuller 134 3/4
Jason Litzau 128 3/4-Edel Ruiz 128
Henry Crawford 149 1/2-Jose Bermejo 150
Nelson Linares 154 1/4-Jorge Alberto Padilla 153 1/4
Evans Quinn 209 1/4-Victor Barragan 204

What fights interest you on the undercard? When I first saw the undercard I thought it was pretty underwhelming.

US Tomato Can
23rd November 2007, 08:18 PM
Well Cintron mostly for how badly he is going to murder Feliciano and also because the prospect of a rematch with Margarito seems likely. Maragarito absolutely destroyed his opponent. Let's see if Kermit is as impressive.

Roman and jason are intersting to me too if for no other reason than to see if they can maintain consistency. Universum is actually running the far more meaningful card imo.

im more excited about the Cintron fight than the Vargas/Mayorga fight to be honest.

Kermit Cintron vs Paul Williams should be interesting in early 08

Your winner by SD Ricarrrrrdo Mayorga!!!!

One cross-eyed moron scored it a draw.

Well it was a great fight and even though my favorite fighter lost, I am glad that he went out the way he did. In true Vargas fasion it looked like he was going to lose in the first few rounds. Then he caught fire and his legs got underneath him. He was a beast down the streach and if it wasn't for the KD in the eleventh I thought he would have won that fight. He is still my favortie boxer and there is no ne fighting right now who can take his place. Great career and good luck down the road buddy.

US Tomato Can

Vargas was in absolutely no danger of winning that fight. By round 7 ShowTime and my own cards had no way of Vargas winning except by KO.

Watching Vargas waddle around the ring was a bit painful for me. Mayorga seemed more serious in this fight than any other that I can remember. The judge who scored the fight a draw needs to be banned along with the judges who favored Casamayor in the Santa Cruz fight.

Jesse Feliciano...WOW. I expected a massacre and even though it was kinda like an extended massacre he gave Cintron way more problems than I ever would've imagined. Good ref stoppage though, I don't want to see Feliciano 30 years down the road with drool running down his chin muttering unintelligible phrases. I also give credit to Kermit if it is indeed true that he broke his right hand in the first round. Way to show some toughness. Like RHK I'd like to see him and Paul Williams go at it in 08. A rematch with Margarito would be great too.

Kermit better shape up! I have been bragging on him, talking all kinds of smack, pumping him up as the next Tommy Hearns to anyone that'll listen....and he's making me look bad. I have a reputation to uphold damnit!

I thought he was due for a main event PPV slot...but it looks like he is still a fight or two away to being matched up with Cotto, Floyd, Hatton or the likes...or else being forgotten entirely should he find poor results. Williams, Margarito..either would provide some fireworks.

That was a hard fight to watch.
I mean, it was fun and entertaining, but watching Vargas was sad.
Slow, without legs, not able to make decent combination, slow jab, overweight...

If that was a real SMW, and not Mayorga, Vargas would get KO'ed brutally.
It's good for him to retire.

US Tomato Can
26th November 2007, 09:04 AM
Agreed. And yeah Cintron looked like warm shit in there. I double dog dare Kermit to fight Margarito again. I really don't see the outcome being too much different than the first meeting.
