At last the son of a legend comes to Albuquerque, New Mexico and I no longer live there.
Any how I got this new in my email from newmexicoboxing.com:
Albuquerque, N.M. - Julio Cesar Chavez Jr of Culican, Mexico will take on his most dangerous, fierce opponent in hard-hitting, hometown hero Ray Sanchez III on Top Rank's 'Latin Fury' Pay Per View championship card at the Tingley Coliseum on Saturday, Dec. 1.
Chavez Jr., 21, is one of the most popular young fighters in the world. Chavez Jr, 33-0-1, is the son of the legend, El Grande Campeon of Mexicana - Julio Cesar Chavez, a four-time world champion.
However, Chavez Jr faces a fierce rival in Sanchez who was born in the South Valley of Albuquerque and has vowed "not to lose in my hometown.
"Chavez sure made a mistake coming to Albuquerque," Sanchez said.
The big fight card is loaded with stars including two-time world champion Jorge Arce of Los Mochis, Mexico and world champion Ivan 'Iron Boy' Calderon of Puerto Rico. Arce is scheduled to box 12 rounds. Calderon will defend his title. Also appearing is future star Mike Alvarado, a rugged welterweight from Denver.
I'll say this I can remember being a kid a little old than Ray training side by side at San Jose gym and Ray was the hotshot for sure. He picked up like 5 silver glove national titles in a row and tried out for the Olympics fell short and went pro at 18. He racked up I think like 18 wins and 1 loss. He was KOing guys horribly too.
This will be an exciting one for me because I am probably border line fanatic when it comes To Julio Cesar Chavez Sr but I also like hometown guy because it was my town.
