Im very interested in knowing more about this fighter - as Ive never heard much about him.

All I know is that he's beaten Arslan Magomedov and Duane Ludwig with seemingly horrific KOs both in the 1st Round (I think). Arslan is an experienced fighter who recently beat JWP... and we all know the quality of Duane Ludwig.

Who else has he fought? Can anyone get pics or career stats of him? Does he have what it takes to cause waves in MAX?

Been digging for info on him. All I could find

His record is 77-24-1, 26 KOs.

Lost to 5R Dec. to Jean-Charles Skarbowsky this year at MAX

Fuji lost a decision to Buakaw in NJKF (I think) earlier this year (or possibly late last year), it was a K1 elimination match (I don't know if it was K1 rules since NJKF is Muay Thai) because Buakaw won, he went on to fight Jordan Tai in K1 and the rest is history.

WHat's Buakaw's record? Is he one of those 150+ fights thaiboxers?

300 fights or so as I've heard. He's fought since age 8.

I know what you mean. I buy the never being KO'd part, but to never have been knocked down even once? I'm not even sure if there is such a rumor, I might have heard wrong. We need a Thai source to verify this!

Well a few things. If you watch enough Lumpinee, MT matches are often very methodical and paced. Thai fighters usually tend to use the first round as a feeling out round. In addition gambling plays a large part in the way matches run, if fights end too soon, it's assumed that the fight was a mismatch which doesn't sit well with the gamblers and what consequences that can have. As a result it's actually kind of rare to see the sort of swing for the fences attitude that K1 usually has. K1 is a sport that changes rules specifically to preserve its high KO rate even changing the rules to increase the percentage (ie no elbows, limited clinching).

Besides 300 fights is par for course in Thailand where you can fight twice a week if you want to. Especially considering that Buakaw started at 8. Fighters usually have records totally some several hundred fights, and going to the first point usually low KO rates. In addition you can take it that Buakaw by the time he was fighting foreigners (say in his late teens, long after he was 8) had such a large advantage in experience that it's no wonder they couldn't touch him.

In addition Buakaw has 300 fights, not a 300-0 record there's nothing Ricksonish with having 300 fights as long as you don't win them all. He's lost his share throughout his career I'm sure, though I did hear something to the effect that he's been undefeated since turning 20 or something like that. But hopefully this explanation makes the never being knocked down thing make more sense. If it helps, for all we know he might have taken a standing eight count every once in a while. Still though if you seriously watch some Lumpinee fights, it's really hard to find a good knockdown, let a lone a KO. They happen often enough, just not as much as you'd think if you're only used to K1.

That actually makes a lot of sense Sudoraba. I used to wonder why some Thai fighters with their big 200+ fight record would have very few KO's. Samkor being one such fighter that comes to mind. So I think as long as Buakao stays in K-1, we'll be seeing a lot of KO's being dished out by him ;)

yep the gamblers prefer to bet on close matches and the promoters want to make money so koes arent the norm, saying that though they do love it when a big puncher comes along such as Anuwat Kaewsamrit and will get a big crowd to see if he will manage to get the ko or not. That was the same back before he came along with fighters like Samransak Muangsurin.
The bit about him never been knocked down before came from when I went over to do the article on him for sherdog before the K1 -max final and came from him and his management so could well be not 100% true though with a large amount of his fights being upcountry when he was younger it would be impossible to find out for sure
