NEW YORK -- In a gut-busting showdown that combined drama, daring and indigestion, Joey Chestnut emerged Wednesday as the world's hot dog eating champion, knocking off six-time titlist Takeru Kobayashi in a rousing but repulsive triumph.

Chestnut, the American hope in the annual Fourth of July competition, broke his own world record by swallowing 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes -- a staggering one every 10.9 seconds before a screaming crowd in Coney Island.

"If I needed to eat another one right now, I could," the 23-year-old Californian said after receiving the mustard yellow belt emblematic of hot dog eating supremacy.

OMG! I'm depressed...

And he has pumped up over the years in a very unusual way. He was a much, much skinnier dude before he became famous in the US, back in the days when he was beating everybody in TV Champion on TV Tokyo. He has too much muscle mass for a Japanese male of that size, and for someone who was very skinny just some years ago... Suspicious, suspicious...

Was this sanctioned by the atheltic commission!!??

Wow I had no idea eating comps were so popular. I mean I knew they exsited but I didn't know they have such a big audience and proper TV coverage like a sport.

Also can't believe how much they eat, just watching them makes me feel full.
