I see him in a lot of K-1 events, as well as a lot of commercials in Japan. Is he someone famous I should know? Does he have as much pimp status as the Japanese Ring Announcer with the glasses and jovial smile (Bomber Morio is his name?)?

I just watched the fight with Akebono vs. Bonjasky. I just don't see how you can take someone who can't even see their own feet past their gut seriously. Akebono is the ultimate freakshow.

As for being on topic (though in this thread there actual are two of them, one to which I have now replied twice), Kakuda cannot referee in the US. They have refused to let him do so because of his lack of skills. When thinking of that, compare him to Mr. Peoples and it should give even one as sour as you are a laugh.

Whenever he opens his mouth. That's what I meant by "speech".

The last big "speech" he made was during Fujimoto vs. Musashi. He got inside the ring out of the blue, grabbed a mic, and said in a truely heroic fashion that he wouldn't allow them to fight in the title match against Hari, whichever wins the fight, if they continued to fight passively. I'm sure he did that expecting everybody to call him the greatest person ever for that.

Rumor has it that Ishii Kancho was mightily pissed off, which forced Tanigawa, a pro-wrestling fan, to say in a post-event interview, "I didn't like what he did, because it was too much like pro-wrestling."

I hear you, but he did that when the executive team at FEG had agreed that the overall right direction for K-1 was to make it as much of a "sport" as the resources and situations would allow it. Then, he somehow had to take gigantic shit on it like that.

He ALWAYS makes a wrong judgment, and does that very eloquently and proudly. It's almost charming, to tell you the truth...

I gotta say that fight was something else. The Samurai noises Kakuda made were inspiring but not enough to stop that assbeating. He made Musashi look good. And that speech at the end... definitely lived up to the hype!
