View Full Version : Assuming there is a Dynamite USA II, what should they do differently?

Ignoring the obvious like killing the DJ in the ring as part of the undercard.
I really don't think they dropped the ball (their plan) as much as it seems all the experts* seem to think. At the end of the day they cannot compete with UFC with a straight up MMA card offering nothing else. If they wanted that they'd have gone with a watered down HERO's card that would draw the local homeless people looking for somewhere more comfortable to sleep for a few hours only.
They need to come with something offering a totally different angle on the sport of MMA. The carnival. Guys like Gross saying they just don't get the US market have something, but then it took years to develope in Japan to get to the point where the NYE type events came about too. Looking back at the early K-1 and PRIDE events show very little outside of the ring. After all, most comments I have read from people that were there said it was the best MMA event they have seen live.
They need their own production crew. A line up announced and cleared far earlier. Better marketing leading up to the show. A more realistic arena. I cannot think of too much else I'd change (though it is 8:30am lol).

First thing that cames to my mind is that they gotta get some real comentaters. Mauro was stuffing up over and over, Goldberg suck hardcore and cheapens the show and the mini-me wannabe Dana White skin head dude made the others look great.

Mauro usually does a pretty job commentating... I sincerely believe that Goldberg was so bad that it was rubbing off on Mauro. Goldberg has to go!

I agree with that. Mauro did seem off balance the whole show.

Like was mentioned above the fight card needs to be announced, cleared, and promoted well in advance.

And the quality of the entire card has to improve.
That was shockingly bad. Probably the worst card ever for Dynamite.

They should do a mixed K-1/HERO's card. People come out to see K-1. They already have top talent there and don't need freakshows. Have half the fights be kickboxing, half the fights MMA. That's one thing that would differentiate it from the UFC. Some kb/mma crossover matches would also be interesting, like the Pride vs K-1 ones. Have some MMA guys compete in K-1, and have some K-1 guys compete in HERO's. 3 straight K-1 matches, 2-3 crossover matches, 3 straight MMA matches. Make sure they're all high quality.
A double one night tournament would also be intersting. 2 8-man tourneys, 14 fights in all (or maybe 16-18 with alternates?). I think Nevada allows them, and rings for MMA, their only requirement is a random bracket selection.
K-1 can get 8-10 top MMA fighters without much difficulty. Manhoef, Yoon, Akiyama, Shields, Belfort, Ninja, Le, Renzo, they've got a good range of organisations to chose from. That's not exactly a dream card, but it is pretty sweet. K-1 they can obviously do a good card.
Who here, assuming you have money and could reach it, wouldn't buy a ticket or PPV for a card like that?

They should do a mixed K-1/HERO's card.
Not to put a dampener on things, but the CSAC wont allow a card with mixed fights (MMA and stand up).

that's a dumb rule!
Tell me about it.
Mixed rules fights are what Dynamite IS after all.

No circus acts, you can put on an entertaining professional show without resorting to crap like Ackah/Morton. PRIDE did a great second show in the USA so here's hoping to K-1 learning from their mistakes and doing the same.

- Fill the ring with oil and chuck some naked girls in there.
- Have a debate between Donahue and O'Rielly.
- Have a battle royal between the axis of evil and team america.
- Fill the ring with oil and chuck some naked boys in there (it is california after all.)
- Have a special rules spitting and swearing match between a redneck hillbilly and a innercity crackhead.
- Get Gary Coleman and Mary Carey to do commentary.
Basically, if you are going to suck, make it memorable.

*FEG needs 2 stop running live show in the US
*"get" a great media-deal in the US
*Start a "TUF" in the US with international fighters, well known head-coaches and broadcast it in the US & elsewhere so that a casual fan may b interested...
*Running Hero from Japan, ppv in the US...
the time difference (Jap-Usa) may play a major roll in the ppv buys though...

Move the venue to a local High School gym in the Hispanic region then book Latinos in place of Koreans. Headline with Saku-Royce 3 in a loser leaves MMA forever match. Sign Stone Cold Steve Austin. RATINGS!

My bad..the real "Tito"..not Ortiz..not Trinidad...yes, Santana would be a huge draw. Plus any and all wrestlers that hail from that area, you know "Venice Beach." I think half of all pro wrestlers in the 80s were from there. Just like so many MMA stars are Huntington Beach "Born & Bread."

OK here are some ligit things that Hero's can do to really help business.
1. I want smaller divisions. They have the premiere guy in the world fighting at 154 when he is really a 145 pound fighter. I think that they could impliment the both 145 and 135 pound weight divisions. In particular with UFC buying WEC it won't be long before they drop the ball on the featherweights and K-1 can drop in and get Faber and others.
2. They need to know there strengths. They should really emphisize the 185 pound divisions because you can make an arguement that that class stands up with what the UFC is offering. Akiyama is the face of it, but Melvin wins and losses in exciting fasion. Sakuraba is at the end of his career, but he is still a solid name in a decent division. And Jake Shields would go to the top of that list as well.
3. Keep doing cross promotions. If you can get fighters from the other none Zuffa fight orginazations then get the best ones. The unchallenged best fight card of the year looks to be the next Strikeforce card which is stacked from top to bottom. Looking at that card we have names like Le, Bang, The Punk, Buentello, Crazyhorse, and Williams. Top to bottom that is a good card so you should probably look to get some of those guys.
4. Sign the free agents. There are guys like Ninja, Belfort, Smiler, Rizzo, and Eastman. These guys are career fighters that simply get on any promotion for the check. They should be staples of an organization and should be used on a regular basis. These are just the first names to pop into my head.
5. Get those Prdie guys. Eventhough the buyout seems finished there are a lot of fighters that are going to be negected in the shuffle. Infact there are some guys that should already be used in the UFC on a regular basis, but the ball is of course being droped. Dennis Kang and Gilber Melendez should be gone after immediatly. Dana has no right to keep them from earning a living so they should be able to get out of there contracts or get into the octagon. K-1 should go after them the strongest. Josh Barnett would also have to be in high consideration considering he loves fighting in Japan and he would be recognized by most MMA fans in the states.
6. My sixth and final solution of this rant is to simply make all the cards look like the NYE cards. Why is there a need to do just MMA fights. You have the best kick fighters in the world so why are we not seeing them on the cards. You have the ability to show everyone in the states and in the world about just how high a level the caliber stable of fighters you have. People would love the Max, people would love the K-1 guys. If you put Zambo up against a guy who would get killed, but would keep getting up it would have the American fans eating out of your hands. They want action and who brings action more then the Max.
OK, thats it I'm finished.

Another recommendation: Have Dynamite USA II.....not in the USA.

Heres my suggestion: have good fights with good fighters. No Warpath, no Kim Min Soo, no Wiezorek etc etc.
