I just rewatched this.....Rampage knocked Chuck down with just his fourth punch. I think he threw less than 10 in total.

Well, as usual, Chuck wasn't exactly pushing the pace... and Rampage was waiting for his moment. Chuck wants guys to rush in like Babalu ;p

I think the reason Chuck lost this damn quick is just because quinton is just that much faster then he is. Chuck's other opponents couldn't land a hook like that as fast as Rampage just did. Chuck wasn't prepared for this kind of punching speed.

Yep, and Rampage stuck to his gameplan.
At the same time, this is the first fighter in forever than Rampage has faced that is a decent striker.
I'm just happy to see Rampage seemed calm and...well...."back."

I believe that the gameplan for Chuck in this fight was to attack the body.
Can anyone remember an interview with Rampage that he said that the bodypunch Chuck landed in there first fight at the end of the round almost put him out?
Chuck has to pull on his punches when fighting strikers instead of leaving his chin wide open.

To me, the more well-rounded, the better. The right man won for MMA. Yes, I'm biased against pure "strikers".

having college wrestling credentials that you use in every fight doesnt make you a pure striker. pure strikers get put on their backs and tapped out rather easily.

True, but look at what Rampage just did to Chuck now and in the first fight. He beat chuck twice standing up. Everybody refers to Chuck as a striker, than what does that make Rampage?

Bah, Chuck looked horrible. He looked afraid to engage and left himself totally open.
Its clear that Rampage has the better technical striking, looks like you win tarley :(

I don't know if I'd say Chuck looked horrible. He's been getting away with keeping his hands kind of low because he hasn't faced a dangerous striker in quite some time... this bad habit cost him big time tonight.

One thing you can say about Chuck is that he is not reckless. He's extremely good at not being cockey or getting carried away in a fight, but the problem was that he didn't expect that a right hook can be so long... He didn't sway back enough. I thought he had learned it from the Overeem match, but apparently not. I think he wanted to wear Rampage out with body shots and all, and was eyeing for a TKO/KO in a later round. Wasn't happening.

Man I want to say something informative about the fight, but the only thing that comes out is, damn I am so happy about this win for Jackson.

This fight reminds me of Serra-GSP in that it was a such a silly mistake that ended it. Keep your hands up.

True, but I think Rampage might just have chuck's number. Like Fedor has Nog's and Silva has his.

This was an excellent fight guys! I've been saying for a long time that age would catch up with Chuck and it finally has in devastating fashion. I won me $20 tonight too on this win.

Awhile ago I had this talk on the striking of rampage and liddell. I figured Rampage had the advantage with his quicker hands and shorter punches. I'm not one of those assholes that's gonna say I knew all along. I didn't, and noone ever does. But it was a short punch and Jackson's hands, due partly to his striking stance, are quicker.
Liddell's striking stance aids take down defence, but I'm not sure what use it is against a decent to exceptional striker.
That shit eating grin fell of Blaf the buffoon's face rocket speed tonight.

The punch chuck threw that was countered was the same punch Hendo used to ko Renzo Gracie and Liddell trained for Randy, but landed on Babalu. He thought Rampage was shooting.

great well timed shot by Rampage, made my day. So with Rampage now defending against Dan Henderson (should be a great great fight). Could this open up a Lidell vs Shogun fight? I think that is what most fans would want to see.

i dont think it's so much a case of age catching up with chuck, i just think (as someone wrote earlier) rampage has chuck's number. to true mma fans this was no shock anyway...
i definately didnt expect the ko to come so soon tho... cant wait for silva/chuck and rampage/hendo. then throw in shogun and maybe arona, lil nog and sokoudjou into the mix and the ufc light-heavyweight division should have an amazing 2008...

All I can say is Damn. All the divisions have gone through a turmoil during the past year or so. As much as I like the volatility in the rankings, I think it's starting to hurt the UFC as there are no lasting champions.

It does but somehow I think Wilson Gouveia put in an open application and although he picked the wrong guy to win, Chuck losing would be an interesting fight for Chuck to prove that he is still there...
Also perhaps Jardine is an option as both were on a roll and got derailed savagely...
In the end with pride fighters flooding in from all angles the opportunities are endless...

I guess they don't even want to bother building Hendo up... because the way this year is going, Hendo would get KTFO in his 'build up' fight...

Good win for Rampage, I thaught that his stand up is better than Chuk's and he can KO him in exchange. You could also see from his pre-fight interviews that he was confident and his mental state was great. I hope he will do well in the future, he can be great champion because of his personality

Doesn't look like that to me. Chuck was engaging, not reacting. He threw a left hook to the body and was moving to the left, like he did after every jab he threw in the fight. He got KO'd because he fought basically no-guard.

Great! Since the last fight Liddell has only won against opponents who are bad at what he's good at so for a few days before the fight now I was quite sure that Rampage would win.
Only thing I didn't like was Henderson, not a good main event for me, I don't think he has a big chance against Rampage. He beat Silva, but look at his performances against Bustamante, Kondo and Misaki 2, won 2 too many in those fights.
I read that Dana said that we will probably see Silva vs. Liddell now.

Liddell said after he planned to continue fighting, with UFC president Dana White saying Brazilian Wanderlei Silva would be his likely next opponent.
Yeah and it makes perfect sense now. Silva gets KO'd, loses title. Liddell gets KO'd loses title. They could have a fight at the end of the year since Silva has considered taking the rest of the year off. Liddell will have time to recover from the KO loss and come back against someone who's in a similar position.
I wonder what Dana's angle will be to build this fight up given all the things he's been saying about Silva getting "executed" and basically not deserving a fight w/ Chuck.

Yr right. Watching it in real time it looks like a wide hook to the body...
He just left himself WAY open and Rampage has rocked many men with those hands.
I'm just glad Quinton gets some gold for once.
He and Chuck were always two of the hardest working guys.

Between the replays you can actually see Chuck sitting down and asking his trainer "What happened?"
On the other hand, Rampage is telling his "Don't cry. Don't cry on camera!" lol

I think he means that Rampage's trainer told Rampage that. Not that Rampage told Chuck.

He was saying to his trainer, as he was understandably happy (and I assume emotional) after Rampages win.
