Yeah, it's Richard Crunkilton on Hermes Franca @ UFC 42.

Man did Rogan school that bloke or what though? Even stepping up and saying that IFL and BoDog produce some great fights.

I still look between the lines when I hear arguements for both. Rogan said that he loves a great rear naked choke over a fighter leting his hands go. That is crazy talk at best, because the number one way that MMA fighters win is by rear naked choke and it is was only excited for me when Penn did it to Hughes and when Hughes did it to that bold guy whos name iludes me right now. I also don't agree that MMA is over taking boxing, but it is geting a target group for every sport which is men ages 18-34, in particular white men which they mentioned. I love both sports and the ages of the people at MMA events are way younger then the people at boxing events. I feel Rogans best points were when he said that it gives college wrestlers and martial arts guys a arena to compete. He was very right there because the superstars and up and comers like Couture, Hendo, Liddel, Huerta, Hughes, etc all have wrestled in college.

As for Lou De Buella, he is what I hear from a lot of the old timers in his thinking. He used senater Edwards "human cockfighter" quote. He was deffinetly wrong when he said that MMA promotes blood in its advertiment which it doesn't. He was very wrong when he said that they would sooner steal veiwers from Pro wrestling then they would from boxing. My thing is they don't have to steal fans from anyone. There is a huge fan base of people who are college wrestling fans that are fans of the UFC. They could be a jugernunt just with those fans let alone what they get from Muay Thai fans martial arts fans etc. He also was personal when he said that Rogan doesn't like boxing which is the thing I hate about this arguement the most. Why can't people like both sports. Most boxing heads that I run into say that there is no way that a MMA fan can be a boxing fan and they simply assume that you are just saying it to apease boxing fans by saying that you like boxing, which is more insulting to them because you are saying that you either like MMA more or you are saying that boxing isn't enough. Both theories are stupid.

I am proud to say that I love all combat sports and there is no reason for them to be fighting period. There is no need for a popularity war.

Amen Lord Gaul :),

It is also something that I did not really like about Rogans comments is that he calls boxing a sport but says that MMA is fighting..... I'd like to call both boxing and MMA a sport where the difference is that MMA involves more aspects of fighting with rules to make it safer.

It helps legitimizing the sport to tell that MMA in a ring or cage, elbows to the head or no elbows, stomps and soccerkicks and knees on the ground make the game very different with wich you could disprove the streetfight in a cage argument...

He said more than once that "Ultimate Fighting is the sport of fighting".

The IFL has cartoon blood spatters all over its title animation. Incidentally, it's also my favorite MMA promotion at the moment.

IMO: boxing isn't very exciting to me (an MMA fan) because the stand up exchanges are more exciting in MMA because of the smaller gloves. I, however, do like to watch submission wrestling and BJJ because the ground game is more exciting since the fighters don't have to block punches and elbows or keep a tight clinch to avoid getting punched.

You can be a boxing fan and an MMA fan, but it's not very probable to go back to watching boxing after seeing a couple of good MMA fights.

Honestly, I pick a high level boxing match over a high level abu dhabi match.

However, I prefer mixed martial arts.

I don't know, there are a lot of boxing fights that not fall from MMA fights in terms of excitment. You seem to forget that there are also a lot of boring MMA fights.
I think on the average boxing fights more exciting than MMA, for example I can watch every boxing fight on Eurosport but can't watch half of KOTC fights. But each to his own.

i watch both. i like both. they are different sports. but they are both combat sports. like k-1 is a combat sport. different rules appeal to different people. i just happen to like it all. combat is combat in the sport. thats what all 3 have in common. i dont see the need to diss but purists will.

Agree with Heckyl. This argument is tiring. There is room for boxing AND MMA just as there is for hockey AND soccer...well, except for on American television.

Thank God for those opinions fellas. I have posted polls at several site about why is there a need to have this popularity battle. If you have a good card I am watching it. There is no need to say that one is better then another or that one is more exciting. It comes down to good shows, nothing more nothing less.

off topic a bit, but i have actually seen alot more soccer on tv here lately than in past years. its not really my sport but it has its moments. things rise with popularity. thats why you get boxing purists moaning and groaning because mma was a pile of shit in the big picture not too long ago. thing is boxing was taking a hit in interest before mma even got bigger.
