I can feel the flames comin at me ready, but look at this dude. His got viseable abs, but got the distended stomach like Bob Sapp and every pro bodybuilder like Rony Coleman have. Thats supposed to be caused by HGH. Dont go sayin he was just relaxed in the pic cuz I watched the espn weght ins and his gut was hanging over his jeans. And it wassnt fat.

I aint hating on the dude.

No idea whether he is or isn't but the bulging stomach with abs on top is likely down to the growth of internal organs. This is a classic sign of longterm use of HGH. As far back as a couple of years ago I read something in the Wrestling Observer (Dave Meltzer has covered pro wrestling for many years AND knows plenty about bodybuilding so has seen plenty of HGH users) about Chuck's "HGH gut".

Luckily for you (and me) this may be the only MMA forum in existence where you WON'T get flamed for this one...

I was struck when I saw some of his fights in the IVC how much better he looked back in those days. On the other hand Branden Lee Hinkle also had an impressive physique.....

But just what does this exactly mean? Is he using the stuff right now or is this a sign that he did it in the past?

Does HGH have the same negative long-term effects of steroids? Other than the bulging gut of course.

No, the main side effects are growth of internal organs and bones, mainly jaw and skull. Also the gap between front teeth is another HGH sign.

HGH is being used as an anti-aging remedy and it is safe to say that a LOT of fighters are using it aswell. Look at the size of Tito's head and jaw a few years a go compared to now, same with Wanderlei.

From what I understand, HGH is kinda expensive.

So many of the fighters who don't make much cheddah, likely don't use it.

But for those who can afford it, I'd be kinda surprised if they didn't.

Whay benefits does HGH provide, and is it tested for by the Athletic Commisions?

"Yes, there is a blood test for HGH. But because antibodies necessary for the process are in such short supply, virtually no HGH testing is conducted. In addition, the test only detects HGH right after injection so it's impractical for in-competition testing. As a result, there never has been an HGH positive."

NSAC only does urine testing right? And there is no hGH urine test as far as I know.

I'd love to flame this thread but do remember Dave Meltzer talking about it once, and his built does look very much like what you would expect from someone using it.

Based on a quick PubMed search, there seems to be little actual research into HGH's possible benefits. I found this on Wikipedia's page on HGH:

A Stanford University School of Medicine survey of clinical studies on the subject published in early 2007 showed that the application of GH on healthy elderly patients increased muscle by 2 kgs and decreased body fat by the same amount. However, these were the only positive effects from taking GH. No other critical factors were affected, such as bone density, cholesterol levels, lipid measurements, maximal oxygen consumption, or any other factor that would indicate increased fitness. Researchers also didn't discover any gain in muscle strength, which led them to believe that GH merely let the body store more water in the muscles rather than increase muscle growth. This would explain the increase in lean body mass.

it helps you recover quicker and just strengthens the body overall, stronger immune system, etc.

It's due to his excessive lordosis of his lumbar spine, it results in the spilling of his guts. Many, many people have it. You could have 1% bodyfat, but if you have bad enough lordosis, you'll still look like you have a belly.

Further to the above, it can also be down to the timing of the photo - if he is breathing correctly, breathing from the lower abdomen it means your stomach goes in and out rather than the chest (which is a sign of shallow breathing).

Also, thicking of the stomach is not just a sign of HGH, but also of developing the inner abdominals rather than the outer, working the hip flexors etc...

Just info...

Right,...

I actually kind of look like Chuck in the abs right now, unfortunately.

I put on a lot of weight after marriage and have been working really hard to get it off.

Right now it looks rather Chuck-like.
And I am certainly not on any drug.

I dunno man. I had ta look up the meaning of it to start with :o but that is some genetic deal Chuck woulda had forever. He has been getting worse the stronger he gets.

Besides, if his lerdosis was that bad, how does he pass medicals so easy?

I hear ya, but I aint buying it. Chuck has his six-pac-belly hanging over his shorts during the whole fight so it agint breathing. The inner abs could be true, but I dont think he the only one in UFC with developed inners either.
