Daido Juku is where Semmy Schilt came from.
It was founded around 1980 by Takashi Azuma, who was a Kyokushin champion. He wanted his school to be as close to original "karate" as possible, with head-butts, groin shots, submissions and throws all allowed. It was a perfect school to pave the road for MMA, and famous Wajutsu Keishukai is an off-shoot of Daido Juku as well.
I watched their tournament a long time ago, and it was brutal.
EDIT: On Schilt's record, you see "Hokutoki Open Weight Champion (1996, 1997)" or something. Hokutoki is the premier Daido Juku tournament.
