View Full Version : General thoughts on EliteXC debut

Was wondering what people thought of the show, generally. All I've seen is 4 of the fights so now idea on the overall production values or pacing but did have a few thoughts:

Bill Goldberg still sucks as a commentator. I LMAO'ed at him claiming Bennet-Noons was a "barnburner" when almost nothing happened aside from the KO. Generally not a fan of Krazy Horse but that was a nice finish and the moonsault off the cage was great. Suppose I should like him really, since win or lose there's always something to laugh at when he's involved.

The Kedzie-Carana fight was really good. Would have lkiked to see the full 3x5mins though. Lots of action and Carana really looked like a total star. I don't have any problem at all watching women's MMA and really enjoyed this fight. Easily the best of the night.

Not watched Mr Town vs Loiseau but it really sounds like the Franklin beating took a lot out of Loiseau. A shame as I've always really liked him and more generally have a bias towards the Canadians anyway.

Silva-Cabbage was a fun fight. Though Cabbage may feel differently. This was the performance Pezao needed after the Eric Pele fiasco. Thought he looked really good in there. Freakishly fast for somebody of that size. Have seen him fight live and he's got incredible potential.

Shamrock-Gracie was a letdown obviously. Fight was interesting rather than really exciting. Was a little surprised at how easy Gracie got the takedowns but he didn't do anything with them. Shamrock's "old school" comments were ridiculous since blatantly kneed a downed opponent in the head. He's either a complete and total dickhead or (and this may be more likely) he totally understands how to stir up interest in his fights. His reaction to the loss almost guyaranteed the overwhelming majority of people watching will be very eager to see him get beaten up in future.

Frank, Carana, Silva & Krazy Horse (carefully matched and promoted properly) could all be legitimate stars for EliteXC for very different reasons.

A shame the main event ended the way it did, but otherwise, thought this was a great debut.

The problem was Frank was just locking up and whining for a standup.

Renzo was in all sorts of positions, but Frank turtled away... he should have been penalized for the stalling.

The problem is Frank Shamrock has become Frank Yvel.

That one fight left a bad taste in my mouth when all in all it was a great night of fighting.

and frank shamrock loses to any top 10mw. easily. it didnt take much for renzo to prove that.

I thought the show looked great production-wise. The fights I saw were good, and other than Goldberg the commentary was half decent. Frank showed what a classy guy he is once again.

I have no problems with women's MMA as long as the fighters are evenly matched. I have seen some one sided fights in the underground world of MMA so that souwered me on it for a while. I have been a fan of Gina for a while, and you are right when you say that she is a star. She is attractive, which always helps, but she is a beast in the ring or cage and that helps even more.

wasnt Mario Lopez supposed to help comment on this event?
probably a good thing he was not involved.

overall, it seems like it has potential, but like i said after the PbP
not enough to make me keep Showtime for now.

Welcome to the funniest MMA-forum then!

Well, technically, MMA Weekly has the 'funniest' MMA forum I've seen. But 'funny' for all the wrong reasons. Like Jerry Springer funny.

That Mythbusters crack was true highbrow interweb wit.

PS: I hope to have something on topic worth posting soon.

My thoughts on Elitr XC?

1. First and foremost, Frank Shamrock went from being one of my favorite veterans and pioneers, as well as one of my biggest inspirations (he was tearing shit up when I first got into MMA), to losing an extreme amount of my respect for him. He is a great fighter, but his honor was tarnished ( in my eyes) because of his fight and post fight antics.

2. Yeah Krazy Horse!

3. Whoever that was who beat Cabbage, did so convincingly. I want to see him again.

Antonio Silva. I saw him live at a Cage Warriors show in November 2005. A very, very impressive monster. Shockingly athletic for his size, still young and enormous potential.

I say it's a great start for a new mma organization. Though I'm not into the whole stage walk thing, it was still nice. Having Mauro Ranallo was great, but they need a fighter who has experience as an announcer to compliment the announcer duo.

I can't wait until there next show.

You are right. For all the hell Mauro caught in Pride, he is really a great broadcaster.

I wish Mauro would shut up about pro wrestling though. The way he was talking about it you'd think it's real.

I think he was just overexcited at being able to actually mention it when it genuinely was relevant. I agree, he went a little overboard with it though.

^ Yeah, great fight. I would love to watch more female MMA.

Next step in mma is hopefully events without ringgirls and without sexism. I do think world peace is more likely to occur before men treats women as equals though.

Seese I doubt that they will ever get rid of the ring girls. I heard Gary Shaw talking about one of the problems with boxing is that unlike MMA it isn't reaching the 18-35 year olds. He said that at MMA events they got DJ and young girls all over the place. He said that he is going to try to have the girls and the DJ's more and more with every event that he does. So if you think he is upping the level with boxing, know that he is keeping the level in MMA.

Though it is a noble idea and the world peace thing as you mentioned would deffinetly come first.

Hell in UFC they are profiling girls and giving them back stories. I don't see the ring girls going anywhere anytime soon.
