UFC 67: All Or Nothing Preview
Previous UFC events on Superbowl weekend have featured some major fights. UFC 51 was headlined by Tito Ortiz finally taking on Vitor Belfort and UFC 57 really kicked off the 2006 MMA boom as Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture met for the third time. Things are a little different this year. The three ‘big’ fights this year look like a collection of serious mismatches you wouldn’t normally expect to find anywhere near the top of a UFC card. And yet this show will likely do very well. Really this is simply because UFC is still such a hot commodity these days. The most interesting fights on offer look to be the expected massacres as former Pride superstars Mirko Cro Cop and Quinton Jackson make their UFC debuts. Few such uncompetitive fights will please fans like Cro Cop’s eagerly anticipated destruction of the unfortunate Eddie Sanchez or Jackson’s revenge match hammering of Eastman. A strong showing from the 2006 Pride Open Weight Grand Prix champion and ‘Rampage’ will immediately inject some fresh life into the UFC’s pitiful heavyweight and almost-stale 205 pound title pictures.

Just re-read it. Trust me, it could have been blunter, lol. But thanks for the kind words (same to Newman as well).

all people are created equal yet some are more equal than others :-P....
I find it hard to judge though wether Lutter matches up better with Franklin than he does with Silva. True is off course that Anderson completely annahilated Franklin in the clinch yet I think Lutter has a bigger chance of dragging Silva down rather than to wrestle Franklin to the mat. In either way Lutter has no business standing up with both. I could go further in my assesment of Lutters chances but that would be called fighter bashing which is not allowed in the forum ;-)...

I think what I enjoyed the most about it was your call of the main event. It astonishes me that there's so few people out there who seem to realize that Silva's going to fuck Lutter up hardway. Lutter's never tapped anyone decent on the mat, he couldn't do much to Pete Sell when he was on top of him (and Silva's ground game is easily equal if not better than Drago's IMO) and how does tapping Cote, Smith and Pele mean he can submit a BJJ black belt?
Admittedly I'm a huge fan of Silva's and I find Lutter as dull as dishwater so I'm biased, but I really don't see anything that suggests Lutter can win this one besides Anderson having a mental meltdown - which is what cost him the Chonan/Takase bouts, not a bad sub game. Silva is definitely skilled from his back - are people forgetting the Otsuka fight?

Considering Zuffa thought Franklin would beat Silva, yep, I'm guessing LOTS of people are overestimating Lutter even now. I like Lutter, I've spoken to guys in his camp and wish him well, but, c'mon, beating Silva? To me that's nuts.
And Silva's ground game looks far beyond Pete Sell's to me.
And thanks for the comments. Much appreciated.

"It may end up as one of this year’s biggest MMA mysteries. Why would anyone book a fight that looks this hellishly dull?"
Ig otta agree I scratched my head when I saw these guys lined up to fight. I think Dana must be burning out. :D
