I know excess carbohydrates sooner or later convert to body fat. Does the same apply to excess amounts of protein, or can I eat as much of it as I want?
Thanks in advance!

Great. Now I just need someone with a science degree and secret decoder ring to read it! :-) And if we happen to have one in here that made it through all 11 paragraphs, please tell me the answer in plain English! :-)

Haha...yes, you will get fat I you eat too many proteins... because the body can only convert 20-30 grams of proteins at a time. So if you take more proteins the body will convert that to fat, because the body has to get rid of those extra amount of proteins.
If you stick to 2 or 3 grams of proteins per kilogram bodyweight... you're always on the right side.
Now do the math: suppose you weigh 75 kg x 2 ( or 3 grams) = 150-225 grams of proteins a day... of course not consuming it all at once.
20-30 % of your daily intake should consist out of proteins.
It depends on your goals... bodybuilding might take more and people who don't excercise and sit all day on a chair need obviously less proteins.

That's new to me! I knew the body could consume only so much protein at one time, and how much to consume, but I had no idea that the "excess" protein would be converted to fat. That sucks. I need to count proteins ... thanks for reading and understanding and sharing that!

I've read that whey protein in particular has been suspected to be a cause of diabeties I have read. They say it can be absorbed so quickly that it actually can affect insulin the same way carbs do....which will suck if you are using it while dieting as insulin going up means you wont be losing weight. If true.

30g-35g of protein per meal and you should have only 2-3 hours between your meals. Everything converts to fat if you eat more than your body uses. Main thing if you wanna build muscles is that the you eat in plus calories and of course get enough proteins, sleep etc.
daily: 30% proteins 40 carbonhydrates and 30% good fat/oil or what is the right word in eglish...

In most articles ppl claim that protein can be converted to fat, but don't give a detailed explanation. The article Shinbone posted is not understandable, even though I have followed biochemistry classes before.
This link is an interesting review, easy to read, about functional foods for training and competition.

It doesn't answer your question but recommends how much protein you should take in.

It's called gluconeogenesis. What that means is that excess protein get converted to glucose in your liver. Glucose causes in insulin spike if your glycogen stores are already fill you will spill over and it will be converted to fat.
