Still have a bit of a headache from last night, but I'll try to give a summary of the results for this event which happened on the 25th of November in Brisbane.
Overall it was a good night, with the exception of being hit with a few drops of tomato sauce from someone's meat pie, and seeing a can of bundy thrown in the ring (luckily it didnt hit anyone).
John Wayne Parr vs Preacher
This was a rematch from their fight last year and really it was just a repeat. Preacher probably had more success than last time out as he landed a number of flurries but it was a comfortable win for JWP. In the third round he threw a big uppercut which caught Preacher on the jaw, stunning him, so JWP threw a few more for good measure which sent Bruce down. Another flurry from JWP sent Preacher down again a short time later.
But, as with last time Preacher made it to the final bell and JWP won a decision victory. Preacher deserves some credit as he did land some good shots which got JWP's attention, but Preacher was a little outmatched and could not fight with his usual aggressive style.
Good win for JWP.
Soren & Dane's Fights
Both were matched with Thai opponents who, despite having impressive records (I remember hearing Soren's opponent was also a stadium champ - not Lumpinee or Radj :P I think it started with a 'C'), both gave out fairly easily.
Dane's opponent was a few inches shorter and had obviously put on some kgs to make weight, which went straight to his belly. An uppercut followed by a left hook KOed this Thai early.
Soren's opponent also had a small height disadvantage but for the first round at least put on a good show with some solid teeps, but strong punching and elbows hurt the Thai causing an eye to close, and the Thai gave up after being sent to the canvas in the 2nd or 3rd round.
In other fights, Eli Madigan looked impressive with his fast and technical combos (I hope he gets matched with Shaggy soon), the amateur boxing was fairly competitive and entertaining, and Majid stopped Shadow.
The highlight of the night for me was Jess KOing her Thai opponent, Jess had her opponent hurt with boxing combinations during the first round and threw in a highkick to finish another combo in the 2nd which caught her opponent on the jaw and knocked her cold. HUGE KO.
I really don't see anyone from QLD at least being able to challenge JWP, Evo needs to bring in some more Thai opponents for him. The last fews fights for Dane and Soren matched with Thai opponents were easy fights for them, I'd like to see them really get tested with some stronger Thais next time. But overall, it was great.
