Here's A Quick Look At How MMA Odds Work:

The above odds are based on what is known as "A money line"

Money line - odds expressed in terms of money. With money odds, whenever there is a minus (-) you lay that amount to win a hundred dollars, where there is a plus (+) you get that amount for every hundred dollars wagered.

Money line betting is simply wagering on the contest based on a given price. In MMA this means the fighter wagered on has to win the fight outright.

* The minus sign (e.g .-130) always indicates the favorite and the amount you must bet to win $100.

* The plus sign (e.g.+110) always indicates the underdog and the amount you win for every $100 bet (you may wager more or less).

* Using this example, therefore, you would bet $130 to win $100 on the favorite, while for the underdog you would bet $100 to win $110.

In the context of the MMA event odds above:

BRANDON VERA is currently @ -350 this means you have to bet $350 to win $100. If you win, the original risk of $350 & also the $100 you won gets added to your account. For a total return of $450.

FRANK MIR is currently @ +290 this means you have to bet $100 to win $290. If you win, the original risk of $100 & also the $290 you won gets added to your account. For a total return of $390.

If the fight ends in a draw, no contest or it simply does not happen, you will get your money back.

Money on Mishima perhaps, and on Monson.

Damn....Mir gets no respect. Not that he deserves much. But was hoping the odds weren't so lopsided, so I could bet against him.

Mishima matches well against Stevenson, not the type to be gnp'd. I'm sure many might even question whether Stevenson should even be the favorite to begin with coming into this fight.
