Finally, the day is comming! I've been waiting since October 22 2004 to avenge my lost to MH. It's now been signed and it will be on the 18 of November in Sacramento California. My greatest desire is to become the UFC champ and I finaly have a chance to fullfill it even if I'm only 25.
Since my lost to the champ, I won 5 in a row (Strasser, Miller...) and I feel that my maturity and my technical level are at their peak for this fight. Since the fight, Hughes won 4 fights in a row so the moment is perfect for both of us.
When Hughes fought Penn last September, he did not impress me and during the post fight interview in the octagon he adressed me since I was ringside. I thought he insulted me and that is why I took the microphone and said that I was not impressed. I realize that this comment was disrespectful and that is far from my true personality, but let's be honest Hughes is always talking about me (negatively), especially during TUF4 show. Let's just say I had enough! I did apologize afterward, but it's not gonna change my attitude toward him when the bell rings on the 18.
After my injury, I took some rest and then started my real training camp for Hughes. I train a lot of intensityand I feel in the best shape of my carreer. I still train one week a month at Renzo academy in NY, especially wit my BJJ mentor John Danaher. Danaher should be one of my corner man for the fight (as he was when I fought Penn). My boxing and kick-boxing training are going perfectly with my trainers. I'm still training wrestling with the national wrestling team and Victor Zibberman. On top of thatevery Friday all the pro TKO fighters (Goulet, Coté...) meet up in Victoriaville (small town in Quebec) to train in all aspects of MMA.
During the Ortiz-Shamrock fight last October, my manager (Stéphane Patry) introduced me to Greg Jackson. Stéphane believes that he is one of the best trainer in the world in MMA and that his camp is fantastic (Evans, Sanchez...). I was personnaly very impressed by Jackson and even if I'm not a member of his team, I'll work with them in the coming months. Marquardt and Evans should be in Montreal soon to help me prepare for Hughes.
