View Full Version : Predictions for the Superbowl? Some rambling thoughts….

Anybody else excited about this? I’m seriously jazzed about this Superbowl since we actually get to see the best team in the AFC face the best team in the NFC – no flukes, no surprises, just the absolute best rep from each conference meeting in the big game, and its not often that happens. Of course the AFC is far superior to the NFC these days (funny how just a few years years this was totally different) but that’s beside the point.

I’m (unsurprisingly) going for the Patriots. After the way they shut down Peyton Manning and the Colts offense and then went and smashed up the Steelers in Pittsburgh they’re looking unstoppable right now. Tom Brady may not be the second coming of Joe Montana as some overexcited sportswriters have been tagging him, but he’s a great QB certainly and possibly the best value late round draft pick in recent history but I think more than anything he benefits from the genius of Bill Belichick. The Patriots always seem to be better prepared and have the strategic edge over their opponents. Corey Dillon has made far more of a difference than I thought he would and he’s managed not to spend most of the season complaining either and the offensive line have been great all year. While they lack truly big name receivers that really doesn’t matter too much since the people they have are talented enough to thrive in that offense. Defensively, well, what other team could field such a banged up secondary and still maul Harrison/Wayne/Stokely/Clark they way they did? Troy Brown has been inspiring all year and Asante samuel is coming along nicley. Throw in Rodney Harrison and it looks as though their ‘big weakness’ actually matches up pretty well with the Eagles receivers, particularly with a half crippled T.O., a missing Chad Lewis and Mitchell and Pinkston out there for the majority of the game. The Patriots LBs are the best group in the game and should be able to shut down Westbrook and the short passing game. They’ll certainly miss Richard Seymour but Romeo Crennel’s swansong should still see the Patriots D stomping all over the Eagles. Donovan McNabb could be in for a long and painful night. Defensively the Eagles are good enough to keep it pretty close most of the way but I’d be surprised if the Patriots don’t win this by a couple of scores.

Gloryhunter!

Actually I'm a Bears fan because my cousin was and he introduced me to the sport, way back in 1986. Funnily enough the Bears were a great team then but have been pretty shit for the last few years.

Is the superbowl on live in Norway or do you get highlights?

patriots all the way. i hate the eagles (sorry KickYourHeadOff). its pretty much family tradition to hate the eagles, cowboys, and any newyork team. but even if i didnt, patriots advantage over all is a very very smart and superior coaching staff. belichick is a fucking genius. he could probly make this years 49ers into superbowl champions.

Isn't that just a tiny bit of an exaggeration? Somehow I just don't see ANY team with Tim Rattay at QB winning too many games. LOL.

Belichick is definitely a genius though.

OK OK. he could make the Niners a 7-9 team. still better than their two overtime victories over the arizona cardinals, woop woop.

Interesting that you should bring up Rattay because i remember them saying during the Pittsburgh game that when it came time to draft Brady, it was actually a choice between him and Rattay.

Wouldn't history have been a little different if the Pats grabbed Rattay instead of Brady.

On a side note, i've had a schizo season. I'm a Dolphins and Patriots fan.

Damn you, Ricky Williams...

haha. ricky screwed the dolphins bad. they go 10-6 had williams not left. solid D with a great running back is a good formula for winning. if they can pickup a good back in the offseason, theyll be back to their winning ways. its not like they lost alot of their games by alot of points.

I watched the first two halfs yesterday (can't stand the halftime shows) and I do like the sport but the constant patriotism around everything, it just makes me sick....

@mellish: You talked about this pro-wrestling football guy Brock Lesnar, the commentators yesterday spoke about some rumours of him transfering to the Amsterdam Admirals. Perhaps we won't see his unintelligent posteriour after all in k-1 :).

i knew the patriots would win it. at least the eagles stayed in it, with all the mistakes even.

brock lesnar going to nfl europe would be his best bet at getting an nfl contract. we definetly wont see him in k-1. hes hell bent on being a professional football player, so we will watch him in the CFL and NFLE until he gets good enough to make the final cut in some pro team in the states.
