I remember the discussion we had sometime ago about the MW champ making only 20k per fight. He ended up losing the belt in one of those 20k fights, never getting his "champ-contract." His next contract won't propably be good enough to compensate for the low-pay championship bouts, so unless he got a piece of the PPV action, the champ lived hand-to-mouth. Thats long term contracts for ya.

20K is just the reported purse, he probably does get a piece of the PPV action. He also got paid for starring in a season of TUF and I'm sure Xyience are taking good care of him. He is not living hand-to-mouth.

Thanks for caring tho.

It was noticable that Cheik Konga got 20k to loose his last match. He has achieved this without beating anyone of note or performing in a particularly impressive fashion. Its nice to see a fighter get paid, but compare that to Mike Swick: $14,000 who beat a quality opponent or Sean Sherk: $22,000 who became a champion and has a record very few on the cards matched. The inequity of it all!

On the flipside it was interesting to see lightweight Tyson Griffin win 14k on his UFC debut. Very high in comparison to other starting lightweights.

Thats because they had to pay him more as he supposedly had a contract with the Strikeforce promotion before this. It seems the pay rise was needed to tempt him away from that company.

Franklin didnt get much straight fight cash, but hes taken care of via endorsements. im not too worried about what he was paid for this fight.

He is not living hand-to-mouth.

I know that. It is just interesting to note that either the UFC was treating him somehow differently to other fighters(larger share of PPV's), or they just took advantage of the long-term contract he signed after his loss in Japan. The latter is quite impossible, because you really want to keep a guy happy if you are investing on him.

Anybody know how many fights were there in his contract?

Kongo's high salary is a good indicator on how desperate the UFC is for HW-talent.

Thats true. He signed it just before the Shamrock fight I think. Or perhaps the one before that.

feel a bit sorry for Rich and his contract. He was finally about to make "champ" money, and ends up getting nose surgery instead....
