I can see this fight becoming something like Skelton Vs Van Dams a few years back (They totally demolished each other). Looking forward to this one. I don't think Botha will go down in front of his homecrowd, but Van Damms won't go down either. If the fight will be anything close I can see Botha getting the benefit of the doubt in a somewhat hometown decision.

I can't believe that they are matching Botha up with Loyd Van Dames. If he thought his leg was sore after the Kruth fight then he is in for a surprise. I will say that unlike most of the guys who Botha fights, LVD is going to stand right in front of him so that will give some oppertunity for Botha to score. But he will be countered with a low kick as soon as he's done scoring.
I also have LVD winning by TKO in the third. But being in Africa I will say that Botha will probably go the distance.

All I know about Thompson is that he got knocked out by Ignashov with a knee to the head.
From what I saw of him he is a tall, rigid fighter with a karate style head kick.

Thompson actually broke in the top 10 of the CKO rankings in 2001. Abidi was expected to walk all over Thompson but surprises happen.

Nice, hope Botha and Thompson can pull it off. I dont definitely dont see Botha going down, I may be wrong but I dont think he has ever been downed by leg kicks and he took huge punishment from Kruth.

Two completely opposite styles, two guys that don`t like to move backwards much, and two guys that refuse to give up in the ring. I have a lot of trouble seeing this from your POV.

I was not at the event as I'm in Cape Town all business as S Cup is around the corner so I'm in training mode. But some of the results I heard
Botha won 1st rnd tko against a late replacement not sure who.
Goran Borovic won split decision over Vusi Collossa.I was tipping Vusi to take this as I have sparred extensively with both of them and gave Vusi the slight edge.
Andrew Thompson suffered a Tko loss not sure which rnd to Croatian opponent.Whom Steve tells me is someone to look out for.
Korean Heavyweight who fought at last Korea Max won via decision.
Those were the main fight results I know of.Sorry for not knowing some of these cats names I'll do more research next time I post a fight report.lol

Virgil, please try to know the Xhavit Bajrami fight outcome, I'm a big fan of him. Sorry to hear Lloyd couldn't make it to the event, read somewhere he had a fight with Ustinov not long ago, that might have been too much in sich short time...
Thanks for the results so far though, and good luck with your preparations.

It was Espidito Da Silva who fought Botha, it was a good matchup for Botha. Good to see he finally gets a 'good' opponent in the sense of him looking good. Da Silva fough JLB once.

Sad Thompson didn`t pull it off.
What did Park do too?
Martin
29th October 2006, 03:28 AM
Not entirely clear. From what I understand he was disq because of repeted holding and stalling in the late rounds.
There was a sign after the fight claiming that the ref had no authority to stop the fight, and that on the promoters request the officials had revieved the circumstances and granted Park the fair winner.
In the ring announcement that the result had been overturned (made just before the Botha fight), they said that the ref could not stop because it was a king of the ring rule fight, not under some other rules set (which I could not make out due to bad sound and thick accent) and it was now ruled a technical draw.
Note that he said it was a technical draw, but the text after the fight claimed that the overturning had been to a win for park. I assume that this change was made later, after the event.
Bit of a mess, realy.

awful fight Botha vs Silva. botha didn't connect nothing, silva was running around backing away... after a one good punch combination by botha, silva complained about a punch in a back of his head... made a face like he's in seroius pain and ref stopped the fight.
sure as hell looked like a fixed fight to me.

Strange.. I haven't seen the fight, but if it was a fixed fight wouldn't it be more logical to just go down instead of starting to complain about supposedly illegal strikes and drawing more attention than necessary?

I heard that too, but I also read that he had an eye injury from the Ustinov fight which kept him from taking the Botha fight.

This was before his fight with Usitnov. Still the fact that he fought Ustinov pretty much re-affirmed that he wouldnt fight Botha.
