Very nice, just seen the ad, they will broadcast on regular Eurosport, have to work then by I'll record for sure!
Go Shakuta, go! Either him or Alviar Lima! This is gonna be an awesome event. BTW isn't 75 a bit too heavy for Lima (and possibly Kaas too, as I don't know much the others)?

Yeah, Kaas and Lima usually fight at 73. Najim too. But all of them have fought at 76 before, so it shouldn't be a problem. Amazing lineup, btw. It's rare to have a tournament where literally all of the eight participants have an equal chance of winning. I have Shakuta as a slight favourite, though, and Najim is the dark horse.

With Shakuta looking like a homeless heroïne addict. A dangerous one though who might very well win the tournament. But then the other 7 have the same capacitie....
So ehm I think Kaas will win but that's just guessing...

They sure have competition! I remember strongly disagreeing with a good number of decisions, but I'll have to rewatch the event for more precise "criticism".

Kaas Vs. Zak "winner" Kaas after 4 rounds
Lima Vs. Najim winner Lima 4 rounds
Mes Vs. Zoraj winner Mes 3 rounds
Spejbl Vs. Shakuta "winner" Spejbl (should be 4th round for sure)
Kaas vs Lima - Kaas 3 rounds
Spejbl vs. Mes - Spejbl 4 rounds (there should be NO 4th ROUND!!!!)
Spejbl vs. Kaas - winner Kaas 3 rounds (I think there should be draw, but I could live with the referee desicion)
In superfight drago beat the hell out of Chabrani in first round KO.
Nice event, but it was too obvious that Kaas should be the winner I suppose.. I like Kaas very much, he is excellent fighter, he does not need the judges help to prove hes best. But I think he was given this Trophy, he should not win the first fight.

Zak did a great job in the third, but before that he wasn't really that convincing. Although the round that he won was a hell of a lot clearer than the two previous rounds. Can't remember much from the extra round.
Shouldn't there also be a "winner" Lima? ;D I thought Najim's scored with better strikes and even rocked Lima a couple of times. Good job by Lima who kept pressuring him, but Najim would always side-step and throw a combo. After they called for a fourth round I was left puzzled. Lima had the better stamina but after awhile Najim started to come through again. A fight of the year contender nonetheless.
It's impossible for anyone to disagree with the result of the Mes fight.
I thought Shakuta won personally, he was way more active and simply scored more although Spejbl threw the harder kicks. It was a definite styles clash as neither fighter ended up looking all that great.
I liked Kaas' tactic of kneeing Lima whenever he came close and not allowing him to get into his groove.
I agree with you, Spejbl controlled the entire fight and used his reach and length advantage perfectly. Connecting with jabs, middle kicks, knees and more. He rocked Mes in the extra round and prevented him from connecting with any significant blows.
The final was messy and both fighters went through a lot and I can live with the decision as well. But I kind of had the feeling that the winners were predetermined somehow.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. Zak clearly won the third round, but I had Kaas winning the first and the second could've gone either way. Kaas won the extra round, no question.
Najim was robbed against Lima, imo. I could see Lima winning the extra round, although even that is debatable, but Najim clearly won after three rounds. Great fight, terrible decision.
Shakuta also won in my eyes. He was just a little more refined and technical than Spjebl, although I guess he was a little lucky his "knockdown" wasn't called, as it easily could've been.
The extra round in the Mes-Spjebl fight was a disgrace, there's no two ways about it. Spjebl completely neutralised him the entire fight.
All in all, a great tournament, and although some of the decisions were highly controversial, Kaas did deserve to win.
Drago also looked great in the superfight, destroying the normally very solid Chabrani in one round.

Thanks for letting us know the details. I predicted Spejbl to win this tourny so seeing him get to the final and then hearing it was close makes my day.
Also good to here that Drago was dominate.

Drago did looked dominant, but also his opponent looked way too light and small next to him, after he got hit by something he just didn't got hold of it anymore, even though he tried top continue everytime he fell.
Also agreed with Kamatari. The Shakuta loss specially to me was pretty devastating as I was backing him to win the tournement. He clearly won in my eyes, specially in the third where Spejbl was very shy and was hugging him and clearly slowing the fight down (which most of the times tend to really annoy judges), the commentators also thought the biggest thing justiffying the decision was the "down" that wasn't called but the judges decided to count it (basicly Shakuta got hit by a straight while fastly backing away, and fell over the ropes, but immediatly got up and the whole thing just looked like he just lost balance due to the impact). I also thought they were too "generous" before in the extra rounds and decided this time it would be a normal decision, which made it even more shocking as it was one of the most even fights in there, but didn't got extended. The referee didn't call it a down, I don't think the judges can, but they did it anyway.
To Spejbl credit he turned his game 100% around and showed up crispy and alert against Joeri Mes, pretty much keeping him at bay with nice teeps, jabs and some powerful left knees and middle kicks here and there (exploiting a bruised area Mes suffered on the previous fight). He also showed some nice moves on the final, but having gone through much less demanding fights (physically) than Kaas, he didn't do enough to overshadow his iron will and pure heart (which made him gain the judge's eyes). He should have used his superior height and body mass to score way better shots than the exausted Yakut, he looked way more fresh but was as passive as in the Shakuta fight.
Yakut was just great, if you forget he also shouldn't have won his first fight (his opponent looked HUGE next to him!), IMO.

What's your opinion on the Lima/Najim decision?
Mago
26th September 2006, 10:25 PM
Just rewatched, but my opinion was pretty much the same, hopefully not too biased because I was cheering for Lima, but I did thoughout that, although Najim looked very intense and pretty much more powerful (sometimes his combos would throw Lima's block all over the place with so much intensity), I do feel Lima got the best in accuracy and simply out worked him throught the rounds. I actually thought the 4th was one of the closest (and the third I would say Lima took for his effectiveness). A very tough fight to call, I think Lima's name might have helped him a bit, but there's a reason he is so well-respected today, I think he always impress with his constant work-rate and brave attitude (Najim also waited too long to respond most of the times, covering up too much, even though his answers were great, this made the fight even, and eventually, to Limas' favour).
This is a fight that, if this was K1 - MAX, people would be discussing for ages, but to most K1 fans those guys are not known at all (I confess I had never seen Najim, for example), so their effort and skill go pretty much to waste as the real fan base don't even get to see it happening.
