first i would like to congratulate you for having no1 forum about k1 and mma,for muay thai i would say its kaewsamrit, axkickboxing and k1-fans.
my question is-how do you keep this forum to net become another sherdog?
you have all the infos SD has,but people posting are really top posters from all over the world(couple of familiar and friendly nicknames from croatia too)
in croatia there are two mma(and other fighting sports combined)forums,
nokaut and ultimate-fight,and nokaut(its croatian section) is becoming more and more like sherodg(quantity over quality) while the other forum where i moderate muay thai section is more private, not that many posters but you can really read something interesting from people inside croatian mma, subwrestling and muay thai scene and i would really like to keep it that way but without many banns, locked topics etc
so is your knowledge in posting enough to keep trolls, raging teenagers etc of this forum or is there something else?
tnx in advance

I think what happened here is the site founders built a strong core group at the beginning that was fairly diverse.

We had moderators from every part of the world who have demonstrated expertise on a variety of topics.

Also, the administrators have kept tight control, meaning that as soon as there is a serious problem they deal with it; they don't let it develop into something more.

Thank you for your kind words and I hope to see you post more!

Thank you for the compliments! I think as administrator or moderator, you shouldn't be objective when determining whether somebody has crossed a line or not. Don't be tolerant, because it'll work against you, and it's a definite waste of time and energy. You know what the rules are, and what you'd like for the forum, and action speaks louder than words: if somebody consciously breaks your rules, like constantly trolling, get rid of that person. Discussing it with them only gives them the attention they want, and it's a waste of your free time as a volunteer administrator/moderator, since they're unlikely to change. It's important to keep it clean that way and make it a pleasant stay for all the good members! :-)

Thanks for the comments Gigi

On top of what the guys above mentiond I think he helped that we really started out pretty much as invite-only, and actively went out of our way to try and keep links off forums where large numbers of members were more interested in arguing than discussion.

The first couple of hundred members tends to set a trend for the site, so making sure they knew what was ok/not ok is hugely important as everyone after that tends to keep within the the norm then. From the beginning we wanted quality over quantity, and I`m happy it has worked pretty well so far.

As Grant said, hope to see you round here more often.
