OK guys, I know what you're thinking, 'another firepro tournament', but wait, this is much better. The old ones, done by Grant I think, were simmed on the fire pro port on the Gameboy. This one is the new version for PS2, and it's much much better. It's got everything, guard passes, kneebars, slick reversals, rounds, back mounts, anaconda chokes, etc. The CPU logic is fantastic as well, as the fighters honestly behave as they're meant to.

So anyway, I'm going to sim an ultimate 16-man tournament Open Weight GP. The fights are three rounds of five minutes, in the Pride ring at the Tokyo Dome (you can choose all this), and there WILL be brackets, decided by me once you guys have chosen your guys.

So here you go:
Pride
Fedor-..... (oyo)
Nogueira-..... Grant Ellis
Cro Cop-.....davidk
Mark Coleman
Kazayuki Fujita
Josh Barnett
Naoya Ogawa
Ikuhisa Minowa-..... Art of War
Wanderlai Silva
Quinton Rampage Jackson-.....Rice Ilari
Hidehiko Yoshida-..... Shiruba
Tamura-..... MZN
Igor Vov
Kevin Randleman
Kanehara
Yoshihisa Yamamoto
Nobuhiko Takada
Dan Bobish
Giant Silva

K-1 & Puroresu
Sakuraba
Gary Goodridge
Semmy Schilt
Heath Herring
Don Frye
Bob Sapp
Akira Maeda
Peter Aerts
Jerome LeBanner
Ernesto Hoost
Musashi
Alexander Otsuka
Hirotaka Yokoi
Yoshihiro Takayama (!)
Ohara (!!)
Tokimitsu Ishizawa (Kendo Ka Shin)
Wataru Inoue (not mma, but E Koike BF. Maybe put him in just to see him get tooled. Bastard.)

UFC & Pancrase
Rickson Gracie
Royce Gracie
Chuck Liddel
Ken Shamrock-..... Toffa
Masakatsu Funaki
Minoru Suzuki-.....Freezing Moon
T.K
Yuki Kondo-..... Cracked Knuckle
Sanae Kikuta
Takahashi
Volke Han-..... Fielding Mellish

There you go guys, if you really want I can make some too, but they won't be as good as the ready-mades. If there are any pro wrestlers, chances are they're already in the game so just ask.

You paid 30 bucks? IMO it's well worth it. If you follow puroresu it's literally an unbeatable game with an endless lifespan. If you're not at all interested in puroresu you might have problems.

Hey, someone read my mind. Tamura it is for MZN. Now, who's going to choose Saku so we can all get the rd1 match the world is waiting for?

OK,

OWGP 2006

Rounds are ten minutes. Tournament format so damage is taken over. Tokyo Dome, in the Pride Ring

Thanks for taking part guys. First up is Fedor Emelianenko and Minoru Suzuki to determine the first winner of the first bracket.

Fedor and Suz for pbp.

Suz straight away shoots in and Fedor traps him in in his guard & puches from the bottom

Suz is out, misses a TD and starts getting boxed around

circling some puches from Suz but Fed judo trips him and goes for same Kimura he used against Randleman in 2004

Suz is out though and Suz lands some puches and knees

Fedor gets Suz in a front face lock but Suz reverses into full mount. Oh Fedor traps Suz in a loose triangle and starts striking!

Back to the feet, Suz getting the better of exchanges! Fed takes control though, landing more and eventually secures a TD, but Suz escapes again and lands more weak strikes. He's doing well! Spoke too soon he's been dropped. gets up but takes more punishment- Fed takes him back and rains down fists from behind.

Ref steps in!

9 minutes into round 1 Fedor stops Suzuki with strikes from rear mount

Next up is Mirko Cro Cop facing ancient Rings veteran Volke Han. This is high kick versus leglock.

Cro and Han for PbP

Han wearing his UWF blue tights and shoes

Cro moves in to box and lands some knees. a few punches. Hes giving Han no time at all. Lands some low kicks.

But Han jumps into scissor take down to ankle lock! Cro gets out no problem.

Lots of puches and kicks from Cro. Knees. Han has no answer. Misses two takedowns. Puches and knees from Cro.

Han secures a guillotine. Cro taps and holds his neck!!!!!

Cant believe it.

4 minutes into round 1 Volke Han taps Mirko Cro Cop to a standing guillotine choke

Freezing_Moon
5th September 2006, 12:28 AM
Third match is Kazushi Sakuraba, the IQ Wrestler, the Gracie Hunter, Mr Kakutougi etc versus Kiyoshi Tamura

Sak and Tam for PbP

They go in to strike, Sak is getting the best. Lands some kicks. Tam shoots in but Sak sprawls then transitions to backmount where he grabs an arm and tries to armbar Tam is out but Sak gets his single leg takedown.

Tam gets into top mount though and tries for a funny armlock that doesnt work.

Back on feet clinching. Tam starts landing low kicks. SHoots in and grabs an ankle for an ankle lock. Sak pulls out. Sak trips him and does that thing he did to Royce where he pulls his gi up and puches him in the face.

Tam is bleeding. Lands some high knees though and goes for the choke. Sak pulls out but Tam starts to land more kicks. Both brawling. Sak shoots, Tam sprawls, spins to backmount, but Sak rolls through for the leglock. Tam pulls out though!

More kicks landing from Tam. Sak looking slower. Tam easily avoids a td attempt and gets backmount. Sinks in hooks for RNC. Sak fights out but eats more kicks.

Sak is tired. Misses TD, tries for kick but Tam catches his leg and applies heel hook! Sak doesn't tap though gets out again.

Both are gassing now. Tam shoots in and tries for another leglock but doesn't get it. Sak is tough.

Rd 1 ends

Tam is cleaned up for Rd2 immediately knocks Sak down and tries for another RNC. Sak gets out again. Sak's arm is actually limp I just noticed which means the Rd1 armbar hurt it.

Tam lands a lowkick. Sak goes down and Tam jumps on for the RNC, and gets it this time! Sak taps.

Kiyoshi Tamura submitted Kazushi Sakuraba with a Rear Naked Choke two minutes into Rd2

By the way guys I'm not embellishing anything. Stuff like the fighters getting tired at different speeds and having to breathe more is in the game. As is the thing where a submission attempt or strike can hurt their arms/legs making them weaker in that area.

Wanderlai Silva versus Rickson Gracie for the chance to fight a tired Tamura.

Rickson has shaved head.

Wand and Rick for pBp

Circling. Rickson with some striking. Not doing too badly! Wand gets a trip td though, spins into north south and starts raining knees.

Rick is out though. Tries more stand up but then shoots for a TD. gets trapped in Wand guard but gets up

Not much action . Wand with soome knees. More knees. Rickson shoots in though, gets to half guard into applies a side choke! Wand gets out tho.

From no where Rick shoots in and grabs an arm from the mount. Wand taps!

Rickson Gracie submits Wanderlai Silva with an armbar four minutes into Rd1

Bob Sapp versus Ikuhisa Minowa up next

Bob and Mino for pBp

Mino runs in but eats two enormous fists and falls down. Gets up quick though. He avoids some more strikes but eventually falls again and Bob starts dropping hammer fists. Mino escapes tho

Eats another big punch and starts bleeding. Enters a clinch but gets boxed and falls down.

Bob takes his back and lifts him up from behind, slamming him very hard onto his face

Minowa is completely fucked and doesn't stand up. KO.

Bob Sapp knocks out Ikuhisa Minowa after two minutes of Rd1

I'm looking forward to this one.

Yuki Kondo and Ken Shamrock to face Bob Sapp.

Kondo and Ken for pBp

Clinch. Both exchange kicks. Ken lands a big punch and tries for a TD but Kondo avoids it. More striking, very even until Kondo lands some knees and falls back into a guillotine. Ken is out thoug.

Kondo lands three more knees standing followed by a flying knee! But Ken gets up and takes Kondo down. But Kondo sweeps and takes his back, starts to punch. Ken weathers it though.

very impressive from Kondo again on the feet. Kicks, and Ken misses a pro wrestling drop kick! Kondo tries for an armbar but doesn't get it.

Very precise kicks from Kondo, followed by a take down but Ken tries to get a headlock from the bottom. Nothing there and Kondo goes again for the arm. Doesn't get it but gets to full mount where he starts the GnP

Ken took some shots but stands up. Kondo tries a flying armbar! No luck. He clinches, delivers some punches and trips Ken. Tries for a side choke but cant get it.

More striking. Kondo looks very good. Lands a big high kick and Shamrock goes down. Kondo jumps into mount and starts punching. Shamrock is blooded up but doesn't quit.

Ok now he quit.

Yuki Kondo TKOd Ken Shamrock with punches from the mount at 9 mins into Rd1

Antonio Rodrigo Minotauro Nogueira versus Kevin Randleman

They made Nog pretty strong in this game BTW.

Nog and Kev for pbp

Kev has dyed hair.

Nog shoots in straight away and gets a side choke. Kev is out though.

Kev shoots, Nog sprawls and punches Kev from the headlock position.

Kev gets boxed a bit but dumps Nog on his ass when he tries to jump guard. Nog shoots in, Kev sprawls, spins to backmount and tries a simple choke w/o hooks but Nog gets out. Kev sprawls another TD, gets sidemount this time and starts to knee to the ribs. Nog gets out quickly though.

Nog gets an ankle pick and starts to headbut Nog from his guard. These are new Pride rules obviously. Hammer House friendly. Back on feet Nog jumps into guard again but this time Kev starts punching from th guard. Not a big effect though.

Kev sprawls more takedowns from Nog and gets sidemount to deliver more knees stands up and gets a kind of wrestling fireman's carry takedown. Nog gets up though

Kev shoots, Nog catches it and applies the anaconda choke, rolling through! Kev taps out quickly!

There was actually a sickening crunch sound when he applied the choke that I had no idea was in the game!

Nogueira submits Kevin Randleman with an Anaconda choke five minutes into Rd1

Last match of the first round is Hidehiko Yoshida against Quinton Rampage Jackson. It's vintage Rampage btw.

They gave Yoshida some funny quiff in the game.

Yosh and Rampage for pbp

Circling to start, Yoshida gets a hip throw. Rampage gets up and gets his own takedown. Then he kind of lifts Yoshida up from guard and jumps forward with him. Like Matsui to Pele. Does it again. Yoshida tries to get up but Rampage traps him and starts kneeing.

Yosh is up though. He eats some punches and knees. Falls down. Rampage tries something but Yoshida grabs his foots and pulls him down. Rampage straight back up though & takes Yosh's back, Starts to puch. Ref asks Yosh.

Back on the feet Yosh gets kneed again and falls down. rampage again gets his back and again starts striking. He stands up and hits a piledriver on Yosh, goes back to back mount and starts raining fists again.

Not looking too good for Yosh.

He eats more puches but somehow pulls out a guillotine. Rampage doesnt tap. Yosh goes down AGAIN, and Rampage does the same, gets his back starts striking. Yosh is still in there though.

Rampage picks him up and slams him onto his neck! He gets full monunt, starts to really beat down Yoshida. He then gets Yoshidas back again and starts to unload. Yoshida's had enough and the ref steps in.

Rampage TKOd Yoshida with strikes from backmount 7 mins into Rd1

First match of Rd 2

Volke Han upset Cro Cop in the first round with a miracle submission. Fedor is much stronger though. Who's going to the semis?

Fed and han for pbp

Round starts, han misses TD, eats some punches. Misses again gets taken down, Fed transitions to half guard and goes for Kimura.

Han gets out and looks tentative.

Fed takes him down again but from the bottom Han attempts the same submission that Werdum trapped Overeem with. Fed gets out easily though. Fed ends up on top holding Han in front face lock. He throws some knees but Han stands out of it. He shoots in again, gets the TD, and sits back into an ankle lock, but Fed steps out.

Fed blocks some punches and lands one of his own. Big liver kick followed by TD. Fedn pounding from the top. Gets backmount and tries a RNC but Han gets up, only to eat more mid kicks and punches from clinch. Fed gets trip takedown and starts striking from the guard.

Fed shoots in and gets reversed with Han in top mount. han sits back and applies another ankle lock and Fedors broken his foot!! Bizarrely it was too close to the rope so they were stood up but the screen flashed the "Critical" message which means it was meant to be over. If any submission is applied to Fedors foot he will give up immediately now.

Round 1 ends!

Round 2 starts. Fed has to be careful. He has to knock out Han before he can try a submission.

Fed shoots in, misses, and starts clutching his foot. Han jumps in with the heel hook and it's over! Upset!

Less than a minute into Round 2 Volke Han submits Fedor with a heel hook

Tamura versus Rickson Gracie to see who'll face Han in the semis. Rickson just beat Wanderlai but Tamura came out of a long battle with Sakuraba and it took its toll.

Tam and Rick for pbp.

Tam with some low kicks. Rick getting kicked some more. And now kneed. But he somehow gets Tams back standing and applies the hooks for a RNC. Tam is out though. Tam shoots in, but Rickson sprawls and guillotines him. Tam gets takedown but Rick stands up. Tam misses a big jumping kick and gets taken down Rick tries for armbar but has nothing. Tam falls back into a kneebar! I love kneebars! Rick is out though.

Rick shoots in and tries a side choke but can't get it. Tries again. Tam trying to keep him away with low kicks. he lands a good high kick. Two middle kicks.

Big four kick combo from Tamura lays Rickson out. He applies the kneebar again but Rick doesn't tap. Tam shoots in, gets guard but Rick gets an armbar from the bottom and turns Tam onto his back. Tam is back out though and he wrestles Rick to the middle of the ring where he puts him down and gets his back.

Round 1 ends

Round 2 starts and Tam drops Rick with a solid knee to the chest. he tries a kind of wrestling choke from the back. No luck. they stand. Tam withthe flying armbar!! They hit the mat but Rick is a flying armbar expert and doesn't tap. Tam tries to roll through with a heel hook but doesn't get it.

Lots of stand up. Rick starts to answer but not much. Knee to the chest from Tam. Tam then does that forward roll into guillotine choke that Oleg Taktarov made famous. Rick doesn't get caught though. He actually stands up straight away and applies an armbar. Its left on for a while but Tam is tough. They stand and immediately Rick shoots in and gets backmount and tries to secure the arm again. No luck.

Tam gets a kind of wrestling water-wheel slam/suplex that lays Rick out and he's very slow getting to his feet. Tam lands more and more middle kicks. They all land. Eventually Rickson goes down and Tam jumps on with the RNC. Eventually Rick gets out but looks very tired and is breathing hard. Tam looks fresh.

More grappling with no clear outcome. Eventually Rick is back on his back but Tam is using the time to breathe. Both are gassing now a bit. Tam goes in for a choke again but you cant choke a Gracie it seems. Tam reverses a takedown and gets mount but Rickson beautifully revereses that so he's in mount and goes for the side choke. Somehow Tam gets out but both are pretty close to "living death" now.

Round 2 ends. this is match of the tournament so far.

Round 3 starts and Tam shoots in, secures the heel hook and Rickson has to tap!

Kiyoshi Tamura submits Rickson Gracie with a heel hook all of four seconds into round 3

That means he'll fight a fairly fresh Volke Han in the semis, and he's pretty much dead on his feet.

Freezing_Moon
5th September 2006, 02:05 PM
Yuki Kondo versus Bob Sapp next

Kondo and Bob for pbp.

Bob is a lot fresher here so don't hold your breath for Kondo who fought a while with Shamrock. Still, WAR Kondo

Bob comes out swinging and lands two big shots. Kondo goes down but gets up quickly. Bob does more of the same and Kondo actually falls out
the ring.

Action retsarts. Kondo tries to trade but is getting beat. Eventually gets a wrestling TD but cant keep Bob down. Kondo avoids Bobs punches and starts to land low kicks and straight punches! Eventually he gets knocked down again by big right hands and Bob picks him up and throws him down. No KO though, Kondo is up already. Kondo gets some knees. Bob hits a clothesline and Yuki gets up more slowly. Another clothesline and Bob gets full mount and starts pounding. Yuki in trouble.
Hes up though

Bob gets Yuki down and starts to pound again. he drags him to his feet and actually picks him up for a pro wrestling powerbomb! It's huge and Yuki might not get up.

He's up! Another clothesline. hes down. Back to his feet, Bob starts to unload punches tyo the body and head. Yuki is nearly dead. He gets some knees though, and scores two to the head! He misses a shot and Bob gets mount, starts to smash away. Yuki is blooded. Ref steps in

Bob Sapp stopped Yuki Kondo with strikes from the guard seven minutes into Rd1

The last match of the quater finals is Quinton Rampage Jackson taking on Antonion Minotauro Nogueira to see who faces Bob The Beast Sapp in the semis.

Rampage and Nog for pbp.

Nog gets a trip takedown to start but Rampage just hold on. Nog shoots again, Rampage sprawls and starts to knee to the head. Nog gets out though. Puches from Rampage Nog shoots again, gets it and tries for side choke. No luck. More punches from Rampage. Nog tries a td but Rampage avoids it

Nog starts his boxing and eventually jumps guard, pulling Rampage down. From there he gets atriangle choke and then extends the arm a la Coleman Pride 16. Rampage escapes though. Nog trips him and tries an armbar, Rampage is in danger for a while but gets out.

Nog pulls guard again but Rampage isn't bothered and starts punching. More punches standing and Rampage lands a big overhand right. Nog is fine though.

Nog gets Rampages back standing but Rampage elbows him in the face. New rules. Nog is down and Rampage takes his back and unloads. Nog gets out though. Nog pulls guard again and tries an armbar from the bottom but Quinton is out and lands more punching combos. Quinton's arm is hurt.

Standing is still all Quinton. He lands an uppercut and the round ends

Round 2 starts with more boxing. No kicks so far from either men. Nog pulls guard and again gets a triangle choke. Rampage isnt tapping. Instead he picks Nog up and gets a huge slam! It was the Northern Lights Bomb which he did to Igor. Nog is hurt and Rampage tries to finish it with GnP. Nog is still defending though.

Nog gets up and gets slammed again! This time he's very hurt. He pulls guard but Rampage slams him again. he only just manages to avoid the TKO and gets up. rampage clinches but Nog spins to his back. He eats another elbow though and Rampage is in control. Nog is breathinghard. Rampage avoids a takedown attempt and gets sidemount where he starts to unload knees. Ref has seen enough.

Tamura just went all out with Rickson and is exhausted. Han is tired but less so. Safe money is on Han.

Tam, low kick sto start but Han gets TD and tries a knee bar. Doesnt sink in. Both circling. Han sprawls a TD and gets some punches. More kicks from Kiyoshi.

From no where Tam gets the Ken Shamrock forward roll to kneebar special and it's over, Han taps!

Bob Sapp versus Quinton Rampage Jackson for a spot in the final to face an exhausted Kiyoshi tamura. Quinton is a lot worse for wear than Sapp who has fought for all of five minutes so far.

Round 1 starts Rampage doing well with striking but Bob overwhelms him and pushes him out the ring. They sxchange and Bob is winning here with a series of big shots.

Ok, he just gorilla pressed slammed Jackson! But he's up. Rampage tries to pick Bob up for a slam. He can't, Bobs too big. Bob jumps on him and starts to go wild with punches. Quinton gets out though and starts some nice boxing, avoiding Bobs huge strikes. Bob lands some body shots though and then flattens Rampage with an overhand right. Rampage fights back with knees to the body but gets knocked down again. Bob picks him up, takes his back and then does an enormous German suplex half way across the ring. Rampage lands on his neck and gets up slowly. That hurt him.

Bob comes in with another big right hand and Quinton is KOd.

Grand final of the 2006 True Absolute Open Weight Grand Prix is Kiyoshi Tamura and Bob Sapp. A rematch from their controversial meeting at Pride 21, an early stoppage if I recall. Realistically Tamura has very little chance chance, he's exhausted. Sapp is fresher, although having now fought three fights he's probably getting tired.

Bob Sapp versus Kiyoshi Tamura for the OWGP 2006 title

Tam is very tired. Tries the same rolling kneebar that worked against Han but it has no effect. Avoids Bobs punches though. Lands some really good low kicks and a middle kick. Three more middle kicks! Bob is too slow to respond! Bob backs off.

Bob rushes him with a football-style tackle but Tam avoids it and lands two more low kicks. Bob starts his punch frenzy though and Tam is powerless, he goes down but recoveres. He stands and tries to lock in a guillotine but Bob is too big.

He manages a trip takedown on Bob and gets into Bobs guard but Bob pushes him up and off with his legs, like Cro Cop did to Sakuraba at Dynamite in 2001. More low kicks from Tam. Tam gets ankle pick TD and transitions to armbar but Bob is too strong and gets out. Bob picks Tam up and literally throws him out the ring!

Tam is slow to get back in and eats a clothesline to reenter. Bob starts his GnP but somehow Tam is out. Bob tries a running clothesline but Tam ducks it and Bob falls over. Tam desperately tries to secure an arm whilst he has the chance but no luck.

back on the feet they exchange with Tam managing to avoid damage. They clinch up and Bob sets Tam up for big powerbomb. Lifts him up but on contact Tam holds on and applies the triangle choke! He does some damage with it but Bob doesn't submit. Bob doesn't stand though, he's already very tired. Tam jumps into guard and gets the arm for the armbar. Ref asks but Bob is too strong and doesnt quit.

They both stand and Bob is moving slower than usual. Tam lands a mid kick. Bob charges Tam into the corner and unloads with rights and lefts. Tam falls down and gets up slowly.Another bull rush from Sapp and Tamis hurt. He lands a low kick though and trips Bob down. He goes to apply some kind of submission to Bobs head but Bob kicks him in the head from the ground. Bob gets up and jumps onto Tam, but Tamis too fast and spins into an armbar a la Fedor/Coleman.

Round 1 ends

Round 2 starts and Bob looks very tired. Tam lands more mid kicks and Bob falls down. Tam tries to apply a heel hold from his back but cant get it. They stand and there's a big high kick from Tam! He clinches and tries the rolling Oleg guillotine choke. It's applied for A LONG time, Bob is hurt.Tam goes for armbar but no luck. He really has the advantage now as Bob is fading heavily.

They are back on the feet and Tam misses a shot. Bob punished him with bear like strikes and Tam starts to look very tired. Bob gets his clothesline and picks him up to do the same again. Tam tries a low kick but misses and Bob hits him with a huge left. Tam is hurt badly, goes down. Bob jumps onto full mount and starts to deliver hammer strikes. Tamura can't defend himself and the ref stops it.

Bob Sapp defeated Kiyoshi Tamura with strikes five minutes into round 2

Sucks that a non player character won but Sapp dominated the competition. Tamura looked good at the end but his tiredness caught up with him. Thanks for taking part guys!

Your winner is Bob Sapp

I have the game now.
I have a SwapDisc to run it on my American PS2.

I am getting a television card to stream the video online so you all can watch and do a PBP.

Grant has spoken.

I also have PRIDE FC, PRIDE GP 2003, UFC Throwdown, and UFC Sudden Impact for PS2... so far PRIDE FC is my favorite.
