Illness has forced American Top Team welterweight Thiago Alves off Saturday's UFC 62 card. In his stead, UFC veteran Nick Diaz will step in to fight Miletich Fighting System's Josh NeerSherdog.com has learned.
Jake Shieldswhom the UFC first approached to replace Alves, confirmed the news to Sherdog.com Monday evening.

this is gonna be good both diaz and neer need to win or face a losing record in ufc. ill go with neer by decision.

id actually rather see diaz/neer than alves/neer or shields/neer. diaz has rarely failed to entertain me. i dont know too much about alves to be honest though...

Diaz has been less than exciting lately but that is a very good matchup.

Diaz must bring in crazy ratings because his UFC record would not suggest someone that is worthy to be in UFC all the time. I think it will be a good fight though.
