Immediately after producing his debut MMA promotion KOKORO (Japanese for heart), 'Yamato Damashii' Enson Inoue displayed a renewed interest in Mixed Martial Arts competition, after four years of 'retirement.'

Inoue closed his inaugural KOKORO with an in-ring speech expressing aspirations of holding a show in the Saitama Super Arena one day, as well as ultimately competing with Pride and K-1 in the popular MMA market in Japan. But Inoue left his audience gasping as he declared, "it's easy to show heart with one's mouth, but I want to show my heart with my body." Inoue then issued a challenge to current Pride Middleweight Champion Wanderlei Silva. Inoue added that he would hope the bout would not go to a decision as he wished to display the true Japanese fighting spirit.

Inoue ended his speech with a remark concerning KOKORO, stating that he'd like hold shows three times a year. Enson hoped that each show would deliver a new suprise to the MMA world.

I knew he was psycho before, but this... this is insane

Enson is a true warrior, I wanna see him fight for sure..but perhaps Wanderlei is a little to much.

Looks to me more like a way to assure himself of getting some free media for his show.

He did the same thing in 2002.

He even got us to petition and write letters to DSE.

I would love to see that fight, if anything just to see a massive display of heart by Enson (who would almost surely lose).

Enson said he wanted to die in the ring. Hopefully he stays retired and this was just a way to gain publicity for his show.

He basically wants to get beat up for promotional reasons. Interesting....

Public challenges as nothing but a publicity stunt. What else is new ...

Except we know Enson will take the fight, considering he didn't want the fight to stop when he fought Igor.

He'd take the fight. But he's not getting the fight, and I'd think he knew that when making the challenge.

Enson said he wanted to die in the ring.

That should be easy to arrange.

1. fight Wandereli Silva
2. employ the scumbag who refereed the Sakuraba-Smirnovas fight.

BINGO!

In the US yes, but look at all the cans Silva has fought. Enson's at the level of Tamura, Pride might set it up.

What would DSE/Pride have to gain from this? It's not a win-win situation. Whether Enson would win or lose, he's still getting publicity, and his promotion comes out a winner. If Silva wins, nobody cares. If he loses, DSE just got them some really bad publicity at the expense of giving a competing organization a very good reputation.

I see what you're going at, but the Japanese would love to see a Japanese fighter beat Silva, and Pride works with other promotions as feeder organisations, so they could work with Kokoro to get that going.

You make a compelling argument for why the fight could happen. I don't think it'll become anything more than a publicity stunt, but my guess is as good as yours. It would, in a bizarre way, be an interesting fight to see, in an experimental kinda way. Or, maybe not ... the more I think about it, I'm not even sure I'd want to see it. LOL. I know Silva will keep pounding, and Enson won't submit. It's not a pretty thought.

Enson wants publicity for his new promotion.

This is a way to try and get that.

I'd be amazed if anyone actually tried to put this fight together.

At least he didn't challenge Arona. Sakuraba looked worse after Arona than he did after Silva. I agree it's not a pretty thought, but it would be interesting to see, and really Enson loves to fight and test his spirit, so the high likelyhood of a huge beatdown wouldn't be as morally objectionable as some other fighters getting it.

Just got back from Tokyo. Enson DID NOT challenge Wanderlai. The guy that reported this is either an idiot or needs to learn more Japanese. Here's a link to what he really said.

Yeah, having trouble with those conditionals. Though I resent being called an idiot.

A) Unless I am mistaken, it was reported that way at sportsnavi.

B) Gsus is full of shit, and you could have corrected that.

c) cheers for what Enson did actually say.

I didn't know that Sportsnavi was reporting it as a challenge too. If so, they got it wrong as well!

Calling the reporter an idiot was my bad -- my apologies. Read this thread after I walked in the door, after returning from Tokyo. I bonded with Enson during the 2 weeks I was staying at his place and kinda took this "challenge" personal.
