View Full Version : Is anyone interested in Bonner vs Forrest II??

I mean, I understand the thought behind it, but it is almost like a step backwards for Forrest, and he gains little by winning.

Bonner has done nothing interesting since his first fight with Forrest, so I am wondering what he did to earn this match up.

the first match was overhyped in my opinion...entertaining? yes...but i wouldn't consider it to be a 'classic' nor do i go back to watch the fight again.

back then, i thought i'd be at least a little interested when they pair them up again...but now that it's all set, i honestly could care less for the fight.

I am looking forward to this. The first was great and established TUF as groundbreaking TV. Has Bonner done much since? Absolutely not. He's edged out some questionable decisions and lost one too, in mostly boring fashion. Has Forrest? Well, he pummelled some midcarders and held his own against an injured class fighter in Tito (though he did back away from Titos injury when he had chance to attack it.) But Forrest needs a big win to get back in contention. Is Bonner that big of a challenge for him now that he is a big star? Not sure. But Bonner still will bring name to the fight and the TUF and occassional MMA fans will give huge props to Forrest and respect him as a top contender candidate should he win the rematch in the year of rematches. So, in the end, Forrest does have something to gain from this: more attention and a possible title or top contender fight soon after, plus..more xyience and zuffa attention, endorsements, unleashed tv time, maybe a TUF gig down the road. These guys do their spiketv.com show, their pre-UFN interviews, etc, etc. This is THE match for both of them, and now both need a win. What better way to gurantee one gets it?

I've never re-watched Bonnar/Griffin. Props to those two for single-handedly getting over a million people to click on to MMA but that is pretty much it. Babalu/Liddell overshadows part II for me.

Exactly my thoughts. Bonnar has more to gain from this fight than Griffin. But then again, they both just lost a fight. Soon or later this rematch would have happened so i think that the timing is perfect now. I'm not really pumped for the rematch either, but there's a high chanse it's gonna be entertaining.

Maybe this gives us some perspective on the competitive angle, but Bonnar's fought better guys than Griffin has since the end of TUF

I think it will be a tough fight for sure..both coming off losses, I hope we are in for another war.

Bonner has done nothing interesting since his first fight with Forrest, so I am wondering what he did to earn this match up.Exactly. Like I wrote in another thread on this, Bonnar has everything to win, and Griffin -- and the UFC -- everything to lose. Bonnar hasn't evolved at all over his last few fights, and been putting up boring fights. He's done nothing to earn this match-up, but I think the circumstances played in his favor. What earned him the fight is, in my guess, the combination of the UFC wanting to recapture viewers and at the same time axe Bonnar. Worst thing that happens with a Bonnar win is we'd predictably in UFC fashion get Griffin vs Bonnar III ...

The first fight didnt do much for me as it didnt represent a great "mma" fight to me more a sloppy slugfest, so no im not especially interested in the rerun especially not if they both will be doing their best to mimic the first one (on danas request?). I will watch it ofcourse but i guess as many others its chuck/babalu that will have my interest in this event.

I watched the first6 fight like five times.

With that said I don't care about the rematch.
It IS a step backwards for Forrest.

No, I don't really care.
The first fight was entertaining but in a brawl kinda way.

OT: BTW, Since it doesn't warrant it's onw thread I'll just write it here.

I HATE THE SHERDOG FORUMS! THEY MAKE ME MAAAAD EVERYTIME I GO THERE.

Thank you very much for kakutougi.info!!

The fight does put a certain pressure on both guys. Sensible thought could make either fighter think to approach this time differently but you can't cuz people are expecting you to brawl your ass off.

Is anyone of them bold enough to do it differently this time? I can imagine that especially Bonnar isn't really that confident in his striking skills after Jardine and Rashad....

I dont care much, but not because its a step back for Forrest, fights dont have to mean anything to me, a fight is a fight.

Why I dont care much is because I dont like either of them, but I think and hope Forrest will take it again.

Looks like I'm a fairly lonely voice on here but I'm really looking forward to it. Weirdly though I agree with lots of what has been said already though.

It's definitely a step back for Griffin and yes the first fight was little more than a sloppy brawl. I didn't actually see the first fight until a few months later and had absorbed all the "best fight EVER!!!" stuff so it left me disappointed.

BUT I still want to see the rematch, basically because I'm 100% certain it'll just be a fun fight to watch. I think both of them know exactly what Zuffa and the majority of the audience want and they'll deliver exactly that kind of fight.

Bonnar seems to have regressed badly and while it may be a bit dangerous for Griffin to take a step back like this and possibly lose it still keeps him high on the card in basically a semi-main event position and there aren't many fights out there for Griffin that he'll draw a good buy rate from but also have a great chance of hammering his opponent.

They made the fight because if they kept losing, people would stop caring about the rematch...

I thought the first fight was pretty good, I didn't go crazy over it or anything. I'm not that interested in the rematch, but it will probably be a solid fight at least.

I am stoked for it. I do think Forrest is the better athlete but he'll probably just box with Bonnar again....they both have good chins and like to brawl so it'll be great.

The first fight was damn good. I thought Bonner should have taken the dec by a super slim margin, but the judges liked Griffin better.

I think this fight will be different. Maybe Griffin will be able to stop Bonnar this time.

Yes, I'm interested in the fight, but not pumped up like I am for the GP.

Im interested, I dont care about Bonnar not 'earning' a matchup. I thought he won the first fight so I think there should have been a rematch anyway and as far as I'm concerned Rashad only beat Bonnar in a wrestling match, I have no respect for Evans as a fighter. This is a chance for both fighters to get back on track.
