I am excited already. Here are the fighters...how do you guys think (or hope) it'll be matched?

Amar Suloev
Paolo Filho
Ryo Chonan
Gegard Mousasi
Akihiro Gono
Denis Kang
Kazuo Misaki
Jason Black

I'd like:

1) Fihlo v Misaki...Misaki won't be easily taken down and layed on.
2) Chonan v Black...standup skills should be close, so could get a good ground battle.
3) Kang v Gono...slugfest?
4) Suloev v Mousasi...Suloev can finally let loose a bit.

I can see a Kang v Misaki final.

Black isnt in the Grand Prix and Henderson will fight somebody in the 2nd round. I would like to see Kang vs Filho or Henderson vs Filho or Kang.

yeah, we have 7 winners right? so who are they bringing in for the 8th? are they giving hendo a bye or is he still recovering from his injury?

hendo will be in second round. i want Kang vs Filho for sure because Kang is good all around and has pretty good standup power.

I'd also like to see Misaki vs Filho because I see Kazuo's good judo skills posing the biggest threat to Filho out of the fighters still in the tournament. Him, or if Kang can quickly KO Filho before getting bored to sleep. I will seriously cry if Filho wins this tournament.

I'd like to see these match ups:

Hendo vs Filho
Misaki vs Kang
Gono vs Mousasi
Suloev vs Chonan

- Hendo vs Filho because Hendo is strong enough and with the wrestling background he has, he would be the biggest threat to Filho in the next round. Hendo has also that big right hand, i would like to see him put it on Filho's face.

- Misaki vs Kang. No need to add anything here i think...

- Gono vs Mousasi because Gono is in general a counter fighter, not that aggressive. So in my opinion giving him someone like Mousasi, who seems to be very aggressive, would make the fight more interesting for us.

- Suloev vs Chonan. Like you i think that Pride should finally give Suloev someone who is not a 100 times World-Habu Dhabi-Brazilian all you want Jiu-Jitsu champion. I mean Lister, Filho and Busta in his three Pride fights. Against someone like Chonan he would probably express himself better. It would make for a better fight in my opinion.

I say:
Filho vs Kang - Kang has some heavy hands and explosiveness, maybe he can avoid the takedown and cave Filho's face in (please? :)). I think Filho - Hendo would be too early really, as much as I don't like Filho he is one of the favorites to win this thing (blargh )
Henderson vs Suloev - I don't know exactly why but I think this is a very interesting match up
Gono vs Mousassi - One coming forward the other countering, could be a very interesting stand-up battle
Misaki vs Chonan - This would be a war

I don't think there's much danger of Filho vs Suloev. They've already fought at Bushido before, and there's no demand for a rematch.

Dan Henderson vs. Denis Kang
Kazuo Misaki vs. Gegard Mousasi

Kang and Filho are friends though, have trained together, and Kang said if that match happens he would hope for it in the finals.

I've read that but I think that's a risk they both are aware of. If you can't cope with it, then don't make friends with someone who's fighting in the same org and weight class. It's no problem in K-1, so I don't really see a problem in Pride.
But you are right it could be boring if Kang holds back or something (which would be a stupid business move but hey it could happen :)). But I'd rather have him hold back in a fight now and not in the finals. If he has problems facing Filho he will have them in the finals as well, despite what he said in the interview.

I don't know if this has been confirmed yet someone, but I read Chonan may be out with a broken orbital.

No shit that would be really unfortunate. So what do you think it's going to happen? Since there are no reserves for this gp, is Joey getting the spot or they're gonna bring in someone else?

I'd like to see:

Paulo Filho vs. Denis Kang
Dan Henderson vs. Joey?
Kazuo Misaki vs. Gegard Mousasi
Akihiro Gono vs. Amar Suloev

If they match Amar vs Filho, someone else can pbp it.

They are circling, and single leg by Filho!
Filho has the side mount, some week punches and mount!

Amar is holding on Filho, who is controlling position
Lack of action Ref stands them up!

I did pbp for that fight already, you can save it till august!

If one of the losers will take that spot, Joey seems to be the most reasonable choice because afterall he's the one that fought against Chonan. Joey also gave Ryo a though fight (very close fight) and even tho he lost it i wouldn't call him loser after that performance. No way they're gonna bring Ninja back, he would be the last choise in my opinion because he's 0-2 in this weight class and lost his last bout in 15 seconds by knockout. It wouldn't be fair.
