I was at a Submission Wrestling tournament in Berlin. It was a pretty big tournament for german standards, 80+ participants. I was really heavy 78,8kg, 173,36 lbs. With all that weight and my injuries in my feet and my right elbow I thought I would be doomed since I rolled my ankle drunk after partying some time ago. Boots + Booze = not a good mix.
There were 3 pools in my division and the champions of these pools fought each other to determine the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
First match: I had to wait 5 hours from weighting in to my first fight and i was angry. I was so excited when i finally got called on the mat. I knew my stamina is bad so I had to take him out and to do it fast. I closed the distance on the other guy really fast and got double underhooks. I didn't know what to do after and just pulled guard and I landed site ways. I sneaked in his back and had one arm already across his throat and started pulling without securing the hooks in properly, didn't work. I secured the hooks and pulled again and he tapped. This fight didn't last 1 minute
Second match: I went from the beginning right after the guy again and shoot in for a double. I got it but almost landed in his guard + a guillotine but I made a textbook guard pass and got in sidemount. I went for an armbar i think and ended up in guard. I tried a triangle but couldn't secure it but could get on top again. I got sweeped i think into sidemount but could get guard again with my elbow hip escape and the slick backside of the sprawl shorts. My corner yelled to make a triangle again so I went after it, I got it almost but with my bad ankles i thought i couldn't choke him so I switched to an armbar and he tapped. Btw. he hurt his elbow somehow and it bleeded all over my sprawl shorts. This match lasted something from 2-3 minuits, most likely like 2:30.
Third match: I thought my style would be exposed by now and the other guy would try to turn up guard and weather an early storm but I was wrong. I quickly closed the gap and he clinched I just pulled guard and worked for an armbar. I got it but he defended well with his arms crossed in each other. I tried a wristlock to get the arm free and he tapped from the wristlock. This match lasted 54 seconds.
Fourth match: This was the hardest fight and the longest. The guy tapped one of the guys I trained with and schooled him on a previous seminar. He trains as long as my normal trainer and is an Alliance purple belt.
I went right at him and he clinched and i went for a flying armbar but he sneaked out. I secured a leg from buttscout positions split seconds after the failed attempt and tried to pull hardcore but he got in my butterfly guard. I grabbed one of his wrists while he was passing my guard and he actually passed it but I rolled him over with the kimura and got in sidecontrol. I tried an armtriangle choke, didn't work so I worked the kimura again and almost had it but I went for mount and ended up in his half guard. This was the beginning of the end. He sweeped me and secured a kimura. I got very flexible shoulders and he had to go for an armbar on my left arm. I tapped to the same submission I got cought in last time. I lost to a better man. Great fight.
Fifth and final match: To shorten my huge essay I will make it short. I just went after him and almost secured underhooks on his back but we left the mat and I complained to the ref. We started again, clinch, flying armbar by me and he tapped. Total time 12 seconds.
I scored 3 different submissions in 4 matches. Gave the champ of my division a hell of a fight. I won the silver medal with ending up 2nd and got a cup for the fastest submission that night. Pics and videos will follow.
