View Full Version : Put Botha in the Japan GP

Every year they invite a foreigner...why not Botha? I think he would be the right "guest" in the Japan GP this year. K1 seems to like Botha `cos they keep using him. But so far he has beaten Jerome LeBanner and Aerts (via freak accident) and lost to:

Ciril Abidi (twice)
Yusuke Fujimoto
Aziz Khattou
Remy Bonjasky (twice)
Mighty Mo (utter humiliation)
Musashi
Ray Sefo
Jorgen Kruth
Yoshihiro Akiyama (in his only MMA fight)

That adds up to 2 wins and 11 losses...this really isn`t well...K1 is not using him well at all. He was evolving at one point but lately he`s going downhill fast...and that`s too bad. He`s a big guy with a big heart but he needs to:

- fight some lighter competition
- actually EARN all the attention he`s been getting.

The Japan GP is the best way to do BOTH.

Give the guy a second chance to start over...God knows he`s trying.

Well, I kinda like the idea. If Botha can lose some weight, so he can chase the much lighter Japanese fighters better. If he prepares very well, and win the GP then he can earn his way through the final elaminations.

But if he gets humiliated by the Japanese fighters, what else is left for Frans?

I hope that Frans gets some big wins ( his two wins had a bitter after taste, both caused by injuries)

Go Frans!

Hanging up his gloves.

This is how I see it: he should either hang up his gloves NOW (because if he keeps fighting big names he WILL lose) or maybe give K1 another chance, start fighting like he did with Jerome and Remy, build up his record, try and evolve...and maybe become a fighter worth watching out for like Goodridge or Mo.

Look at Gary Goodridge: while he DID lose against top competition like Jerome, Sefo, Bernardo and even Mo he kept his record pretty well by winning GPs and beating some decent but lower-caliber oponents.

Botha started from the top with Abidi, Fuji and Khattou (who are/were decent fighters) and then went for Remy, Jerome, Aerts, Mo, Musashi and Sefo.

Why are there no Kengos and Sean O`Haires on the record of a beginner?

Agreed, good idea.

itdoes seem like the perfect fit for him to get a win or two under his belt.

Botha needs to win like 8-in-a-row just to have as many wins as losses.

I think that's a very good idea especially because I think Botha could take it if the competition is as weak as usual.

I think that's a very good idea especially because I think Botha could take it if the competition is as weak as usual.

And the weaker competition could help him evolve, that`s what I`m saying.

I hope "the powers that be" in K1 have already considered the option.
