Being able to break and distract his opponent down while in the guard has always played into Royce's strategy. And is one reason why an extended time limit has always favored him as a fighter.
We all know a lot has changed in the UFC since Royce last fought. It seems that more than ever fights are being tailored to facilitate the stand-up game. I know Royce from his guard, often works to soften his opponent up with constant palm strikes/slaps to the head and ears of his opponent. We know he also likes to utilize the heel strikes to the kidneys, while in the guard. (Heard somewhere that this wasn't allowed in the UFC anymore- don't know if this is the case.....don't know why it would be.)
Thus - my question(s) are:
I.) Will...BJM consider techniques such as, constant pattering of palm strikes to the ear, and heel strikes to the kidneys, as consituting activity on Royce's part? If so, how much time will BJM allow for Royce to work his guard, if Matt plays it safe and waits to be stood back up?
II.) How will...the crowd react to Gracie after they realize that this legend they've been hearing so much about, has a gameplan solely based on pulling guard at every oppurtunity and keeping the fight there?
...........in other words how long will it take until the crowd commits blasphemy and begins booing the likes of Royce Gracie?
