POSTAL CONNECTIONS: MORE INFO ON SAKURABA LEAVING DSE/PRIDE
By Tape Lord
Hello my friends, sources in the DSE/PRIDE organization, the K-1 organization, and the Japanese media are all telling me some of the reasons for the abrupt departure of Kazushi Sakuraba from DSE/PRIDE to K-1.
From what I've been told, Sakuraba left DSE/PRIDE because he had a falling out with Nobuhiko Takada. The reasons for the fall-out are the following:
1.) Sakuraba has felt for quite some time that he should have been getting paid similar amount of money to what Hidehiko Yoshida and Naoya Ogawa were making for their fights in PRIDE. According to insiders, both Yoshida and Ogawa make high 6-digit to 7-digit figures for most of their fights, especially on the New Year's card, where it was rumored they each made almost USD$2 million each. Sakuraba was supposedly making lower to mid 6-digit figures for most of his fights.
2.) Sakuraba basically had had enough of Takada matching him up against the top heavyweights in the world and getting him almost crippled in some instances, while getting underpaid and ruining what legacy he had left.
3.) Sakuraba supposedly wanted very much to enter last year's PRIDE 183-pound GP, but Takada didn't put him in it.
