Lidberg updated his website. Says this Thursday, he was almost done training when finishing off with some shoots. After a couple of shoots, he slipped on the sweaty mat at the same time he threw his partner. The knee cracked and he realized immediately something was damaged.
Day after, he visited the Swedish olympic team's doctor, who confirmed that the inside of his right knees ... uh, some tendon or something, can't find my dictionary ... was partially torn and over-extended. An injury that takes 4-6 weeks to heal. Doctor said it was impossible for him to fight at K-1 Scandinavia. Because his knee has no stability right now, it's enough with just one kick to it and his career is over. He's at the moment in such pain that he can hardly walk, but he hopes it heals quickly so he can come back to training soon.
Furthermore, he's feeling very down, and says it's hard to have learaned he can't fight at the event. The positive this is he didn't need surgery and months and months of healing, so he'll soon be back on his feet. Says because he felt in great shape and has trained very hard, it felt really tough to be unable to be part of the K-1 event. He'd really looked forward to show his new skills, and says that economically, too, it's a big setback for him. What's also hard is thinking about all the people that's bought tickets, both from Sweden and abroad, and come there to see his fight. He did some long thinking and decided to come and see the event, and could possibly go up in the ring and say a few words.
Finishes off by saying the Japanese representatives for HEROs showed a lot of interest in getting him to Japan for a fight there. If everything feels good and the conditions are right, maybe he'll fight in Japan when healed and feeling well.
