The first two fights have been officially announced for the 16-man GP:

-Ryo Chonan vs Joey Villasenor
-Makoto Takimoto vs Gerard Mousasi

Both Villasenor and Mousassi make their highly anticipated PRIDE debuts.

Recent signee Gegard Mousasi will take on Olympic judo Gold medallist Makoto Takimoto. The Armenian Mousasi fights out of Holland's Jurojin Gym, and was reportedly signed by Dream Stage Entertainment last month. He has impressed in DEEP, and recently dispatched Kingdom Ehrgeiz leader Hidetaka Irie at DEEP 24th Impact with potent strikes from the mount. Takimoto was one of the first three confirmed fighters to participate in the Grand Prix, and will look to find success at 83 kilograms.

Another one of the first three competitors announced for the Grand Prix was Ryo "Piranha" Chonan, who won the DEEP Middleweight Championship from R-BLOOD leader Ryuta Sakurai in February. Chonan has been knocked out in his last two Bushido appearances, and will look to find victory this time around. His goal however, is daunting, as he will face King of the Cage Middleweight Champion Joey "The Dreamsmasher" Villasenor. Fighting out of Jackson's Gaidojitsu in New Mexico, Villasenor has won his last fifteen fights and is undefeated in three and a half years. Villasenor made his Japanese debut at DEEP 24th Impact in April, defeated Yuya Shirai by unanimous decision. While many disparaged Villasenor's performance, it was later revealed that Villasenor fought the bought with multiple fractures in his hand. With his hand healed, Villasenor will hope to better impress the Japanese fans this time around.

Furthermore, 10 additional fighters have been officially announced for the WW GP:

-Paulo Filho
-Murilo Bustamante
-Denis Kang
-Phil Baroni
-Murilo Ninja
-Akihiro Gono
-Amar Suloev
-Kazuo Misaki
-Hector Lombard
-Yoon Dong Sik

-Murilo Ninja, great! Ninja will rock against any other opponent than Filho.
(Filho is awesome but his fights are somewhat boring.)

What about Dan!?! Maybe fight the winner? (would be cool.)

Cool,
looks to be a great event. I'd love to see Filho out of thi after his abysmal peroformance vs Ninja, but I guess I have to live with it. They could match him up with Baroni, we'd get a quick ending either way :).
Oh and Sik in is great news, he has definetly impressed vs Rampage.

Hopefully they can fit Semenov in one of the last two spots, he's always exciting and a good fighter to match.

Denis Kang and Dan Henderson will round out the rest of the list. Kang already said in an interview that he was in the tournament and Henderson wasn't in the Absolute tournament because of this one.

Chonan is headed for another KO loss. The Dream Smasher is going to do just that for Ryo.

Shit I really want Chonan to do well, but this is a really hard first round. I don't think Takimoto will make it through either but to be honest I can live without ever having to watch any of his matches ever again.

Any chance for Kondo?

When was the last time Ninja defeated anybody worth mentioning? Just because he's from Chute Boxe doesnt mean that he's that damn good.

Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree with that. He's not shoddy by any stretch of the imagination but it seems like his reputation is based solely on the image of him hate-stomping Matsui's head through the mat. He ran through the Pride 205 division when they didn't really have a division and he's slowly become the guy that people beat to start making a name for themselves.

That said I hate Filho.

Ninja hasn't fought in a good weight class for him, now he is in the right weight class. Filho just wasn't the right fighter to show off against!
(think Wand vs Arona here, except Filho is better than Arona in my eyes.)

Also Ninja had very good submission defence troughout the fight, Filho also mentioned this, and with a little better wrestling/sprawl Ninja could beat Filho.

Filho would probably school every fighter in the WWGP except Kang, Hendersson, Busta, Ninja and maybe some of the new grapplers.

Is he really that great? His record doesn't really stand out in terms of competition.
I hope that Chonan cann pull through, maybe he has learned his lesson...
