Sony has given us a lil bit more news again about the ps3.
Sony's next system to come in two configurations, 20GB hard drive-equipped version to cost $499, 60GB hard drive-equipped model to go for $599.
As you can see the price is very expensive.

Actually there are a couple of advantages.
PS3 contains inbuilt support for playing Blu-Ray discs. Although the output is not in HDTV format, the quality differences really should be hardly noticable. Also, although the Blu-Ray is not the market standard, it is a cinch to be, since it can hold more than the competing standard. When Blu-Ray players are actually released, they would cost about $1000. That was the sales point with PS 2, it plays DVDs. Possibly a mixed reaction, Sony is notorious for introducing market standards that dont last and bundling them with products that dont need them: Betamax, Mini disc, UMB for PSP etc. PSP, despite all the initial hype, is getting its ass kicked by Nintendo DS. PSP bundled a whole bunch of stuff into their product but failed to focus on the core quality: great games at affordable prices. It all depends if Blu-Ray catches on...then the PS3 will probably be worth it.
The X-Box 360 is priced at $299, without a hard disk. The premium version with a 10G (?) HDD is priced at $399. Here is the clincher: Some of the X-box 360s sold for TWICE that amount over e-Bay due to shortages. Also MS is considering dropping prices by about USD 100 which means they'll clean the market during the year end. They can afford it really.
Tis OK, I have a feeling Nintendo will kick all asses when it comes down to gaming. I actually saw a footage of their Revolution system. Insane!!! When it comes to innovation, Nintendo RULEZ!

The new Nintendo Revolution will almost have the same graphics as the ordinary Xbox so dont expect that it will be that great.
Btw the Blu Ray disc can have a capacity of almost 20 gb so just imagine how great and beatiful the games will be. just check out the trailers of tekken 6 and Grand Turismo 5

No mate, I dont expect Nintendo to compete in raw power with the 360 or the PS3. Just like the DS did not compete with PSP in those areas but rather innovated more on areas of game-playing. Everyone thought that the double screen and touch sensitive screen was just a gimmick. The point is Nintendo designed incredible games for the DS for its capabilities: e.g. Mario Kart DS and the crazily popular Nintendogs. In Japan, you CANNOT buy the DS, it is out of stock. If you buy it over auctions and stuff, the prices are at 25'000 yen, more than the original price of a PSP value set.
Similarly Revolution changes the way you play games. Sure it has the standard control pad for GameCube, Nintendo 64, SNES and NES (YES ALL THE GAMES CAN BE PLAYED!!). The demo that particularly enthralled me was using the controller as a light-saber / sword format. Bloody incredible.
The way I see it, the Nintendo is satisfied with low end capabilties, while keeping low prices but working on the fun factor and targetting ALL age groups while the X-Box and PS 3 appeal to hard-core gamers. ;)

BTW Urdum, no disagreements with the assessment of the Blu-Ray disc. Actually there is a company (I forget the name) in the Bay Area which is developing an engine for real-life environment. In most games, you have beautiful but non-interactable backgrounds (i.e. you cannot blow up the annoying chicken in the background or chop a tree down). This engine allows all laws of physics to work and to be defined further. The trouble? Of course the space!! So it would take something some form of storage like the Blu-ray to deliver a level of realism never seen before.
Incidentally, TDK recently came out with the Blu-Ray disc with 4 layers (x 25 GB) to give storage capacity of 100 GB!!!!!!!!!!! My lord, that is freaky!

PS3 will have cool gfx and all but it's definetly too expensive. I'll wait a year or two when the price has dropped and the catalogue of games has been expanded to more than just the usual suspects of sequels. It does have the more interesting games scheduled when compared to X360 though.
As to the capacity of the disc, it has nothing to do with the beauty of the games really (if you don't consider pre-rendered sequences). It's all about the CPU and GPU horsepower and the ammount of RAM at the console's disposal. Having loads of space does nothing, for instance drawing a whole world would pose technical problems, as you would either have to have an insane amount of RAM, or the disc-drive had to constantly move the data into the RAM, creating stuttering and noise. Plus you would need the CPU and GPU horsepower to actually draw that world in real-time. The only asset Sony has with blue ray is that you can play blue ray films on it-but I'll wait, at this point it looks like HD-DVD might be the format to look out for. Graphically speaking X360 and PS3 are not too far away from each other, despite X360 having less space on their discs.
I'm too looking forward to the Wii, i don't really care about the gfx, they are good enough for me. The games that were shown just look like tons of fun. If you take Gears of War for instance it looked really great, but it's just another shooter and third person even (juck :)).

I just played some 360 demos from the E3 and there is no reason to buy the PS3 at all for me. Exclusive titles are equal imho, the 360 is cheaper and the 1st generation PS3 games will have to be compared with the 3rd generation Xbox 360 games.

About the games of the Nintendo and the Ps3. Most of the games on the Nintendo are for chillderen till 12 years. For example Tekken, Gta and Grand Turismo arent available for the Nintendo. Most of the "Cool games" are every time on the Xbox or the PS.
This time with the New generation I guess it is going be the same story but except for the PS3 and the XBOX 360. Most of the popular games like Grand Theft Auto will be released on the same day. And Nintendo wont have those games. If Nintendo als would have all these games, I could swear that would be a great succes in Europe just like the PS and the Xbox

Nintendo Wii will rule! It will be extremely fun to play 2 players on some games. Something different from everything else, graphics isnt the most important thing.

Nintendo will make alot more "cool games" like you called it but still Nintendo makes a family console while Microsoft and Sony target an audience from 15-30.

The funny thing is all these "mature" games are aimed at a an audience of young players around 16-20. I'm 30 now and I don't need blood and gore to enjoy a game really, I don't have anything against it either (been playing the Quake series from Quake on) and still consider myself to be reasonably mature :). GTA for instance plays so slugishly, it's not fun. And the "pimp your gangsta" gameplay leaves me unimpressed. That being said it IS a big franchise but for me it appeals more to the 12 year olds than Zelda. For such a game 12 year olds don't have the patience.
Nintendo's concept is different, they try to open the market up for people of all ages etc. GTA will in most cases only appeal to a young (14-18 years) male audience. These are today the core gamers, if Nintendo succeeds with their concept they will open up a whole new market. Their IPs might still be considered "uncool" amongst the younger audience, but it doesn't really matter. I was sceptical at the beginning about the DS but as more and more fun games poured in I got one as well and it's great. And what do you know, I even got my GF interested (who absolutely despised video games before). Nintendo is doing something right. Wether or not they will succeed with their concept in the home console market remains to be seen, but I'm quite confident.
The "battle" of this generation sure is interesting. MS is of a good start, Sony didn't perform that well at E3 (up until now) and Nintendo did move some heads.

Isnt the Wii control acutally made to target older people because of its familiarity with non gamers and ease of use?

Yes Zanzoken, it aims to target all age groups. One of the proposed games available is bass fishing which will work incredibly well with the Wii controller. It is targetted at middle-aged to elderly Japanese men. It will just depend on the game.
Personally I'm waiting for the Revolution and the Star Wars game :P

That remote control shaped controller is not the only one for Wii.
For the people who find that too revolutionary there will also be an oldskool looking 'snes' Wii controller
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/2388/controller7tw.jpg
I'm also looking forward to the Wii, the other 'new' consoles tend to have just better graphics than their predecessors(ps1 to ps2, no much difference besides better graphics. Same for xbox to xbox360) Hopefully Nintendo will really make some revolutionary new stuff.
