Like the title says, K-1 Grand Prix Champion Sem Schilt took the #1 CKO Ranking from Akio Mori. This marks the first time since 2001 that the reigning Grand Prix Champion has held the #1 rank. A that time, Hoost held the rank but failed to repeat as tournament champion due to a foot injury.

Hoost lost the #1 ranking to Bob Sapp in 2002 and fail to regain it in a rematch. Sapp then lost the rank to Mirko Filipovic who never defended it and dropped 5 ranks after going a full calendar year inactive. The #2 ranked fighter at the time was Akio Mori of Japan who claimed the vacant rank by defeating Rick Roufus. Mori defended the rank 4 times before losing it to Sem Schilt on April 29th.

Schilt will hold the rank until either inactivity drops him or an opponent seizes the rank. Bouts in the semi or final of a tournament do NOT count as ranking matches.

On the same evening, Ruslan Karaev broke into the top 20 by taking #16 away from Stefan Leko.

Hong Man Choi defended #17 against Sylvester Terkay.

Alexander Ustinov (in Seoul, South Korea) defended #11 against Paul Slowinski.

The night before (4/28) Kaoklai Kaennorsin retained #7 with a draw against Hiromi Amada.

Well, finally. I will cease to produce anti-Musashi antibodies each time I watch the WGP. I have still an evil thought. Last year one could almost spell that Karaev in the WGP is Musashi's passport to allow him to have at least one win in the tournament. This year it looks like well errrm. Let's see if they put Chalid on Osaka's card and who will he be fighting :P

I'm betting on a Feitosa-Mori rematch in the elims. Chalid will be tossed to Ray Sefo.

The Chalid vs Sefo fight could be entertaining for however long it last.

Okay where I dont agree with all your rankings I must agree with this one and the entire line leading up to it. This can actually be used to determine the champ except I would have chosen the Remy route and then Semmy's win over Remy declares him champion.

A lot of people will agree with you regarding the Remy fight. I, of course, don't see it as Schilt beating Remy but as Schilt and Choi beating Remy.

I'm betting on a Feitosa-Mori rematch in the elims.

This would be gutsy by Musashi but do you think that FEG would risk a WGP without any Japanese fighter ?

Botha could have done a lot of damage to Mori last year. So the aspect of risk taking is there. I also think that Mori was beaten by Feitosa and Karaev. One on one, I think Mori's team would have the resouces to prepare him better.

Schilt sure deserves it

I'm betting on Chalid Arrab vs Musashi, no disrespect to Chalid, but it's the surest way for K-1 to get Musashi into the WGP, because Chalid won't KTFO of Musashi, and the decision will be Musashi's.

I'm betting on Chalid Arrab vs Musashi, no disrespect to Chalid, but it's the surest way for K-1 to get Musashi into the WGP, because Chalid won't KTFO of Musashi, and the decision will be Musashi's.

Chalid is a great fighter but short of reach. I stood right aside him when he kept Leko's corner months ago and he is shorter than me = shorter than 1,83 m. This makes Musashi comfy in the hit and run strategy we all know so well. Chalid has heavy punches (hence the nick) but Musashi managed to avoid heavier punchers, so he will be likely running his ass out of danger.
Perhaps it will not go to Chalid vs. Musashi in the ellims, but let's consider other options :

Musashi vs. Slowinski. Slowinski has excellent counter-reaction and will hit back (and hard) each time Musashi comes for a shot. Otherwise he's the lesser experienced guy so he might be outpointed (at least for what the judges need to score to have an excuse).

Musashi vs. Sefo : LOL @ this. I mean errrm either Sefo has the bad luck of his life again and is ill or hurt, or he needs to knock Musashi's head on one side of the ring and the body on the other. And they still can call it a foul.

Musashi vs. Semmy : this is a no-no.

Supposedly Iggy wins K-1 Holland (I don't remember now if it matters for the Elliminations, if I am not mistaking it does). This one could be Iggy if he is recovered after the accident at the knee. Iggy in his good day can make Musashi look as his masochist gf. Iggy in the bad day can make a mock of himself. If the winner is Bregy, Bregy is a huge monster but Musashi can bet on speed. If the winner is Naofal Iron leg, this can be "interesting" for Musashi (kidding) 'cause Naofal almost kicked Schilt to the head. He'd rather not try Naofal.

Winner of K-1 Asia : This can be Musashi's passport provided that they don't bring in too many dangerous Europeans or Americans as a repechage.

Karaev : they can make a "clone" of the bad decision against him or maybe Musashi will even be lucky.

Aerts : they robbed him once with Musashi using Iggy as a chase dog to wear Aerts down. But Aerts is still a tough man. Never can know.

Le Banner : well, that would spell suicide. And Le Banner said he will not be anylonger competing for WGP tournament in 2006 and he seemed to mean it.
In any event JLB vs Musashi at Elliminations would be a sweet 1. Kinda "Jerome, prepare your passport for Dome, sorry for the minor inconvenience" :)

Bonjaski : Bonjaski looks a bit worn-out and Musashi taking revenge on him in a bad day of his would make FEG have tantric orgasms. But I am afraid that even a worn-out Bonjaski can still make Musashi look bad. Even after 2 extra-rounds :)

Choy : This one would be sweet. Swimm yourself out Choy, try not to hit Musashi with a crawl style swing. He still might sneak a "mistake". :)

My bet : they will put Musashi against Chalid in the Ellims and hand him for the quarters the less dangerous fighter remaining (likely the winner of K-1 Asia). Or the opposite - winner of K-1 Asia then Chalid. Musashi has a quite safe pass to the semifinals.

Sorry for the off-topic.
A nasty thought : Tanigawa comes on kakutougi and writes "No, no, no, this is wrong unicorn-san. We really draw lots, Musashi will face whoever his karma puts in front". Hhhhhh
