Made my return to sport grappling today...

Walking in off the street, with no formal training in over two years, and a five-year hiatus from competitive grappling I stepped into a local Absolute-Division Submission Grappling Tourney.

There were 8-competitors in the event, with double elimination.

I weighed in at 176.

I got fourth place, losing the bronze medal match, going 2 wins and 2 losses (both from verbal submission, exhaustion!) But I did lose to the eventual gold medalist, who also tipped the scales at 245 pounds and won the silver medal in the Men's Experienced Heavyweight Gi Division.

(I wanted to wear my stars n stripes shorts, but couldn't find them. Could that be the source of my loss?)

Oh, and my boss won the silver medal in the kickboxing tournament, so I should post his fights too.

I also won both my matches with quick explosive submissions, as I have zero cardio at the moment.

The event officials and referee said they hope to see me come back, and the gold medalist said if I had conditioning I would be a threat to any of the competitors.

Still, I feel bad for giving up mentally...twice...in the same day.
All it does is make me want to come back stronger though!

Maybe I won't fight so many big guys next time.
(In three of the four fights the guy was over 200 pounds, and two of the guys were 245 and 240...but hey, I should have had them!) :)

If you only had cardio, you would have probably won against the guys twice as big as you. They were sloppy. What were they trying? Kimuras? Arm coils, come on.

They were heavier than you too so really no loss, still cool that you just walked in out of nowhere. It was like, "who the heck is THIS guy? Probably eats crap gas chicken and steak...mumble.grumble*"

Oh yeah, your going to be fighting again soon, too bad I can't show up. From the videos you obviously have more technique than them. I mean you put me in hundreds of crazy submissions, and didn't just yank and coil at an arm.
