Hari vs Graham? Sweet!
edit: you're sure about Hari? He isn't on the poster?

edit2: then again, Choi is also on it, so could be an old one. Is Hari a replacement or something? Is it official? Or when did that get official if yes?

Simply awesome event, potentially one of the best of these past 4 years. Abidi has a very good chance of taking it, how good is that Pola Mataele? I'd love to see a Abidi/Hari final. Oh and of course WAR AERTS!!!!111&

Yes, it is pathetic, his next fight will be against Lyodd van Dams, another dutchman, although not a legend.

I am almost at tears at the fact that this might not be PPV. It is so sweat that Hari is in the tourny and it would shock me none if he won it all. It would still be cool if Suttie won it.

I actually think Van Damns has more of a risk of beating Schilt than Aerts. More of a risk that a lot of ppl, simply b/c he's a tough fucking bastard who won't fold when Schilt comes at him. Schilt could rush him all day, he's still gonna get low kicked hard

But then, have you seen the fight between Van Dams vs Ignashov in the Amsterdam Arena. Ignashov kneed him into obilivion. And we all know that Ignashov is the master of the knees, so imagine what Schilt wil do against Van Dams. A hard chin won't save you from those knees, you have to be quick on your feet, and that is Van Damms neither.

^^I assume as it is on a K-1 Official card, there will be only single knee attacks right?

Yes, there will be only single knee attacks, but as you said yourself in another Threat Schilt is one of the fighters who addapts good to the rules, so therefore I don't think this rule isn't much of a problem for Schilt.
I'm so curious what Aerts gameplan shall be? low-kicks? or punches?

I agree Schilt should beat Lloyd as he does do vey well when faced wit rule changes. I just wonder how Dam has changed since I last saw him fight. He is seriously one tough f#*ker.
Aerts aginst Sem will be interesting. Aerts has surprised me with every fight he had the latter half of last year. He beat Mo, LeBanner and then lost to Oyama. I thought he may lose to Mo and LeBanner, and kill Oyama so I am not going to say he wont beat semmy.

He ate a LOT of knees from Iggy and still wouldn't go down. I imagine he can take one from Schilt, more so than others I bet. Plus, what about the LOW KCIK!!!!!!!
Shinbone
9th February 2006, 12:53 AM
Yes, everytime Aerts had to fight I thought that he will lose. And everytime he surprises me, somehow. But against Schilt, I again think that he will lose, and let's hope that old Peter surprises me again, and proof me wrong.

I cannot recall Sem ever being bothered from lowkicks. Not even when fighting Hoost etc.

He is a kyukushinkai karate and a seidokaikan karate guy, those guys are raised with low kicks.

This is one fine looking event!
I'm hoping for a Cyril vs Graham final in the tournament with Cyril taking it.
For the Super Fights I'm hoping Sefo and Aerts will win their fights.

I havn't even seen him get hit with alot of low kicks, He usaully is coming forward to much for people to try to land them. I think his first true test with lows is going to come from Van Dams and Aerts so we will see.

Well, Schilt stopped Bonjasky and Hoost before they could even hint at hurting Semmy with low kicks, I feel that Aerts is so experienced and crafty that perhaps he could pose problems but I doubt that Semmy will go down from low kicks, karate guys are usually very conditioned from taking kicks... Van Damms I expect to get KOed.

I think Aerts will punch by going backward. Long range and inside range are deadly against Schilt (long range he kicks, short range he knees), + Hoost tried to break the distance with punches, but he got caught by a knee on his way inside. So that's why Aerts shall punch but on his way outside. Concerning the low kicks, Schilt has very good reflexes and blocks them all, so Aerts will have a hard time : he may use combinations like 1-2 punch, step backward or aside, and lowkick.

I Think Aerts has a great shot at winning. People haven't acknowledged that Aerts was 5-0 under K-1 rules in 2005. I think he's fighting better than in the middle of his career, when he had that slump. If the odds are generous I would certainly bet on Aerts to win this.

I think Semmy will win this on points, I hope Aerts can crank out some thundering round kicks.

Schilt was on a 'live' show yesterday here on Dutch television. But the liveshow somehow fooled theirselfs, because Sem said his last time he fought in Japan was a month ago. I think his last fight with Hoost was 7/8 weeks...

Anyway, the same questions as always; have there been any deaths in K-1? Mike Tyson hits his wife, do all fighters do that? etc. But Sem gave some good answers.

19th February 2006, 10:48 AM
What were some of the answers if you can remember them? Did he come off as a good representative?
Arie-Kanarie
19th February 2006, 11:41 AM
One of the questions was how he felt about that K-1 gets zero publicity here in the Netherlands. If any other individual athlete wins a championship they get a lot of attention from the media. You won't see k-1 on our biggest sportshow on television: Studio Sport.
He said he doesn't care much about it. The people who know what I have achieved will congratulate me and that is enough for me.
He did became sportsman of the province Drenthe(population of 500.000)though. He was happy with that because he was chosen by other sporters from that province(I don't know any, but ok.)
He already trains with Dave Jonkers for 14 years, and he doesn't like to switch trainers. He wants to stay with him for a long time, and win together.
At the question if he was ever knocked out he replied that it happened here in the Netherlands against Ignashov. When he was back in the changing room and they were untieing his gloves he said:"what are you doing, I still have to fight"
He has no sponsor, but he said he made a good living from the fights only. The man next to him(Emile Ratelband) said that people who were watching have to become his sponsor.
furthermore they showed some pictures from the final on which he had to gice some comments. His parents aren't that tall, and the message for all the little kids was; always eat your dinner, and listen to your parents.

Anyone from Holland recorded the show or know where I can watch a re-run online? I totally forgot to watch... fuck..

19th February 2006, 01:31 PM
I also missed it, I got home after some late- night poker :).
Without even watching I can tell he is a good representative. He might not be as good looking as Bonjasky and as charming as Ernesto nor as funny as Aerts but in Dutch the words come out well, in numbers.
Remy has the tendency not to know what to say when posed with these sometimes cliché type questions but Sem being a bit timide keeps on talking :).

Peter Aerts heads to New Zealand tommorrow (Tuesday) in order to acclimatize for his fight against Sem Schilt. He will have a hell of a jet leg for sure. Since there is a 12 hour time difference between New Zealand and Holland.
