1984-2004

A semi photographic book/magazine of fights with all photographs by the infamous Susumu Nagao has just been released in japan for about $9.00.

Very cool with pix of PRIDE, K-1, UFC, PANCRASE, ZST, Shooto etc...

Looks very interesting.

The price seems fair for something thats Japanese. How many fights does it cover? It must be a short book to be that cheap.

Wouldn`t mind a copy of that. I saw a Susumu book once before called something like ULTIMATE

Well, he is considered to be "the" fight photographer in the world. The only one I believe that covers K-1, PRIDE, UFC and the smaller shows.

It is more a collection of photo`s rather than specific fights, though it does both. The size is more like a thickish magazine with a spine.

128 pages, about 1cm thick.

I can let you know what postage would run to after I get home. The issue would be more likely to be if there were still any copies floating around in the bookshops.

I seem to have lost my original copy of this so went to the book shop to try and find another, only to find Vol. 2 is now available...though it is a 2004 edition with less pix.

It says 1984 to 2004, 1984? what MMA show they followed then? i thought Pancrase was the first japan MMA show wich started only little before UFC?

Shooto originally started in 1984/85. It was founded by pro wrestler 'Tiger Mask' Satoru Sayama after he quit New Japan Pro Wrestling. Syama ended up working realistic looking pro wrestling for the Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF) not long after but as far as I'm aware he set up Shooto first (whether that's the Shooto company that's still around or a totally different one witht he same name I don't know). I don't believe Sayama has had any involvement with the company for years now.
