Do I have to have a specific number of posts to add an avatar or is this function completly disabled for "regular" users?

Na mate, not disabled at all. I think one of us must have turned it off during testing at some stage. When I get home I'll turn it back on.

The size limit seems very low on the avatar -- my avatar I use on all the other forums is too big and by the time I shrink it down it's unrecognizable.

I feel so lost without my toothless Dan av!

LOL

it was set at least the same as the sherdog size as I was originally using the same avy.......maybe the sizing got messed up with the testing too..

Anyway, I'll get home in about 5 hours so will sort it out for you then

Yeah, when I tried it was 100x100 pixels, but the byte size was really small...Thanks for checking on it! :)

How many bytes/Kb is your avatar? (So we can step it up to a useful size.)

Just checked it out...the size setting was the same as the other sites, but it was turned off so you guys couldn`t add one. SORRY! lol

Anyway, it has all been fixed and the max size bumped up a little.

RG, I added yours for you while I was fiddling in admin....hope that was the right one.

is it possible to add a gif? when I tried it I got an error which says that animated avatars are not allowed...

Good find. I think I've fixed it now, so please try again with the animated avatar.

okay now I was able to upload it, but it behaves like a normal picture. in my comp everything looks fine when I open it.

Stupid ####### vBulletin software POS ... I'm gonna have to look at this again and see what part of "allow animated avatars" it doesn't understand.

It seems like the current imagelibrary can not resize animated GIFs. I'm guessing it tries to resize yours from 74x100 to 100x100, and that's why it messes up. I created a testuser and uploades (o Y o)'s avatar above for test, because it's 100x100 in size, and it worked. I'll look at whether we can run an update on the imaging software.

hey, I could try to resize it if I know how with IrfanView...

It works now. So I can go for a search of better avatar and simply resize it to 100 x 100... Thank you for your problem searching!

thats funny you had those problems. ive had my animated av for many many months now. wonder why it did it to you.

like I said in another thread I think that ( o y o ) is behind it all. he has some weird fixation towards that creature which used to be in my avy. :) okay enough is enough I`ll move on with my life...

heckyl, when weupdated the server it auto updated the user group permissions. Anyone with an animated avy were fine, anyone trying to change their avy to an animated avy got rejected.

Seems the issues has been resolved though.

Partially yes. I still need to resize it to 100 x 100 just to let you know.

yeah, 100x100 is set in the system.

yeah, 100x100 is set in the system.

When an avatar of lesser size is uploaded, the system tries to resize it. With the image-library it uses right now for the task, it's not possible, so it complains about invalid files instead.

It's possible to switch image-library in the vBulletin settings, but I need some additional information from sitting at the server before that can be done.

Until then, keep the avatars at 100x100. Even with newer software in place, uploading an avatar made at 100x100 is the best thing to do, because otherwise, the software will resize it, and it'll look lower quality than on your screen.

In short, if your avatar is 75x100 with white background, copy and paste it to a 100x100 white canvas in your graphics program without resizing the 75x100 image. Doing that, you're basically adding some padding around the avatar material to prevent this server software (when working) to stretch the 75 pixels by 30% to 100 pixels in order to make it 100x100 and potentially mess up a perfectly fine avatar by adjusting those dimensions.

The software used for graphics has now been changed, and I noticed it allows you to use avatars that are not exactly 100x100. I've tried with both 75x75 and 75x100, and both of them worked fine. It wasn't resizing them either. I hope everything works for you now.
