Last night they were scoring with half points ( eg 28.5 - 29) and if there wasn't a whole point clear it would go to a draw.
Is this a new system? I can't remember ever seeing it, and t would explain the extra rounds fest, and making it easier for a draw to happen.

The half-point has been around in K-1. I thought they had stopped it.

The half-point system caused Michael MacDonald to lose against Maurice Smith at the K-1 USA many years back. The same half-point system caused Filho to lose to that Russian guy in the Vegas GP (where Leko won). The half-point also played some part in RIck Roufus losing to MacDOnald in the USA GP (if i remember correctly).

First time in a while I see the half-points popping up on the Japan circuit.

Its an odd system. Many people were calling for a stop to it.

Used to be around, then ( thankfully ) stopped. In the US they use it, though this is the first time it has come back in K-1 for awhile that I know of.

I guess it is the kind of BS where they can say "Remy 28; Musashi 27.5," giving Remy the edge ( not looking biased ) but having the excuse in place to call a draw.

Perhaps this was the very reason it was brought back.

exactly the halfpointsystem really gives the judges the opportunity to call a draw although one fighter was actually better on the cards, which makes it even easier to put up a hometown-dec

I remember Kohi being ahead 10 - 9.5 against Kaolan in the first World MAX GP (could have been a draw just as easy), before he was annihilated.

Half point scoring is just horrible. It was used until just a few years ago in British boxing and it's a really stupid system that causes confusion and leaves alot of room for dodgy things to go on. Though, depending on your viewpoint, that explain why it would be brought back!
