View Full Version : So, I guess I`m overtrained...

...but I`m not sure why really. During the last week I`ve felt tired and without energy, and my resting heart rate has rosen from about 50 to about 60. So I intend to be resting for the rest of this week and start training again on monday, If I feel better. I`d like some help in analyzing what has made me overtrained, although I have my guesses.
Training schedule:
M:Kickboxing
T:rest
W:kickboxing, sparring session
Th:rest
Fr:HIIT
S:Some bagwork at home, boxing with dumbells in my hands etc.
Su:Squats and straight deadlifts, "bodybuilding style", meaning that I do every set to failure.

I really don`t think I train all that much really. I`ve been overtrained in the past, but at the time I had a rediculous schedule. I think I overtrain easier than most though.
What I think makes it too much in my current schedule is the squats on sunday, maybe my legs can`t take all the training? I think I`ll try not going to failure in the future and see how it works out. Maybe I also shouldn`t have started all the training at once, and instead started with k.box for some weeks and then started squatting and running?

It`s strange though, considering I used to play football in the past, at that time it was like 4 football practices per week + 3-4 hours of PE in school, and that wasn`t any problem. At that time I also ate like shit, didn`t know anything about nutrition.

Currently I eat 5-6 times a day, about 2 or just under 2 grams of protein/kg bodyweight. Supplements: multivitamins, omega3 and whey-protein.

Could your mental state affect you and make you overtrain easier?

Anyways I`ll start with taking some rest and go a little easier on the squattin`. Any help about my schedule etc is appreciated.

Dude, I think its the squats on sunday followed by the kickboxing on Monday. If you do the squats "bodybuilder style" to failure then youre really taxing your legs. I used to do squats bodybuilder style and my entire lower body and back would be sore for a bout 2-3 days following. Usually the following day it would be hard to walk. If I were you I'd give yourself at least one day of rest between squatting and kicking or cut back on the intensity of your squat routines. My 2 cents.

Yep that`s what I think too. I`ll go lighter on the squats in the future.

Squats and dealifts on the same day would kill anyone seeing as how your legs and back make up the largest % of your body mass. Add that to kickboxing the next day (I wouldn`t be able to walk the next day lol) and the rest of the week, and you`ll soon be overtrained I think.

I would recommend at least two days off after either of a heavy back, or heavy leg workout.

Don't do a heavy leg workout every week. Do a normal leg workout. Go heavy every 2 or 3 weeks. I guarantee you better results that way.
