I just read....from MMA.tv
"The fight did in fact take place, and it was well worth the wait. I refuse to confirm or deny whether or not I was there, but there were almost 2 brawls, and they were during the fight. They had agreed to rules before the fight, and was a dispute about the rules. It was supposed to be all standing, but kimbo shot a single leg...not bad either, only he was getting choked, and I guess you weren't supposed to do that. One guy tried to rip gannon off, then he got ripped off by someone else, and it almost got real ugly. The second brawl was also about rules. As kimbo was just about out, Gannon threw a weak knee to the face, and I guess that wasn't supposed to happen either. Kimbo's people again tried to break things up, and it gave kimbo a chance to recover. It took 4 knockdowns to keep kimbo down. A ton of heart guys...buy the video."
This sort of thing has no place in this sport. None at all

Agreed. But I don't consider it part of the sport. This is for all the highschool kids to drool about. I for one am glad MMA has evolved bc otherwise I wouldn't enjoy it as a sport.

Too true mate. Unfortunately the media cannot see the difference between the two, and thats where it affects the sport as a whole I think. Not reality, but the medias perception of it.
We seriously considered putting "Kimbo" in as a word to be automatically censored here, as we didn`t want it on this site considering we are about the sport. I had heard this would be a semi legit match so we didn`t add it, but I seriously hope this is it for him until he steps into a cage as a real MMA fighter. Backyard brawling is not part of the sport, and we don`t want to give it attention it does not deserve. Nice to see you guys all seem to feel the same way.

I would like to see more of Gannon in actual MMA fights though, he has a good boxing background and a pretty good ground game from what ive heard.

I for one am glad this fight happened, and is now over. Gannon is welcome to carry on from here, I just hope the talk about Kimbo dies a quick death.

Might this be a rip-off? I hope it is, so that all those idiots who payed to see it, will lose their money and learn a lesson. Support the sport, not the brawl!

It is not a rip off, it is a real fight.
Kimbo wasn't just ko'd.
Kimbo was down for at least 120 seconds total.
That's like being KO'd 12 times in boxing.
I have a copy of the video, I have ways of supplying to video, however, I only viewed it as to formulate my opinion on this sort of thing.
It is wrong.
It is illegal.
Kimbo was done after 3 minutes with Gannon.

In addition, the fight was a joke. You can really tell a difference between the professionals and these fighters.

Gannon is a professional.
However, with no groundwork.. elbows..knee strikes...or submissions allowed... can you really tell that?
Note, Gannon is a professional, but not a world class fighter.

I know the rules, so I was speaking about the rules they fought under. I obviously can't say whether they're good on the ground or not. As far as Gannon goes, he accepted the fight for stand-up rules, and for being Golden Gloves and whatever else he said he was, it was very, very unimpressive. I haven't trained boxing for like 10 years and got more snap and technique in my punches to this date. Every old-time boxer I know from back then does. May be my demands are high from a gym with several olympic boxers and fighters going pro (which is a big deal here) but from somebody with his boxing background, I was very unimpressed by the stand-up war. Fueling the fire of my comments is the fact that some people on the Internet are expressing awe of Gannon's stand-up skills and "brutal punches." Somebody with decent stand-up skills would've finished either opponent quickly, is my opinion. That said, I'm X:ing their skills on the feet. The ground might be a completely different issue. I'll change my statement "professionals" to "decently paid professionals" since anyone that gets $50 for a fight can claim pro-status.

Fighting is an art. Watching this is just like when you sit ringside and all you see around you is a bunch of kids acting silly and not appreciating the art. I get that feeling all the time at events. Makes me sick to the stomach.

I am sure he got his golden gloves off of chin alone.

I just watched this video. My god....how sad was that?!!! I hope this does not somehow make it to the news. Between Yvel and this fight I feel the sport has taken a ten year step backwards this week....

You're doing the right thing. And you're right about the media. I just hope this doesn't make it into "mainstream" media and just dies in a few weeks.
Gannon proved his point, catapulted his e-popularity into unknown heights and can now enter serious MMA competition if he likes. I don't care as long as he is keeping a low profile on the Kimbo fight.

News about a potential match in K-1 (just the rules, I hope) makes me sick. I hope this doesn't give "them" any ideas to market Kimbo as Sapp's long lost evil twin if he someone were to win.

Quoted from the dog for those that haven`t read it yet.
a lot of people have questioned the legitimacy of the win because of the chokeholds. the best way to settle this is a rematch in a pure striking environment...K1. K1 has already contacted me, i assume this is what they want. gannon/kimbo makes a lot of sense for them, would sell a lot of payperviews to people who don't normally buy K1.
i know a lot of purists will disagree with the fight being in K1, but the fact is, the more payperviews they bring in, the more they will be able to attract the best talent in the world. K1 has always had special interest fights, and this one will bring in a lot of fans who have never even thought of ordering K1 b4. the special interest fights are what help support your favorite fighters. and although we may not have the skills that the great K1 fighters have, we'll do everything we can to make up for it with heart, guts, determination and sheer entertainment. we may not have the skills of great champions, but we try to show the heart of one, and thats as legitimate a part of fighting as the skills.
What I find truely sad, is he is pretty much correct. While I don`t want to see this fight happen, from a business perspective it makes sense. My major concern, as we have seen this year and others, is when these "special interest fighters" end up getting in positions to keep a legit GP fighter out of the GP.

How many more purists will K-1 be pushing away with something like this?
Remember the owner of that amazing K-1 Database? Nuff said.
