View Full Version : Affliction The end of Affliction?

The January 24th 2009 show headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski is in serious trouble.
Why?
Because they replaced Jimmy Lennon Jr as ring announcer with...................................
Scott Ferrall - the complete and utter moron who was so appallingly bad on the YAMMA show and has since gone on his Sirius radio show bitching about what a shitty sport MMA is.
The t-shirt guys STILL have NO clue.
And on a more serious note - Affliction's relationship with Golden Boy promotions is so feeble that Golden Boy have no problem at all planning an HBO show with Antonio Margarito vs. Shane Mosley for the same day (source: Dave Meltzer)
With friends like that, who needs Dana White?

the guy who sounded as if he smoked about a carton of smokes a week?
that guy blows hard and failed hard with his attempts at being funny in the Yamma.

What a fucking stupid decision.
Also isn't he replacing Michael Buffer, I am almost positive he did the first Affliction show, not Jimmy Lennon Jr. Which really makes it worse, they went from the best announcer in combat sports, to a guy that somehow managed to do a worse job than the used caravan salesman Cage Rage bring in.

Honestly, the ring announcer isn't a deal breaker for me. Michael Buffer definitely adds to the level of excitement for me but if it's a bad/annoying announcer I just ignore him and wait for the fight to start...
But Margarito/Mosley on the same exact day is bad news for Affliction, at least when it comes to diehard fans of both MMA and Boxing b/c I know if I have to choose between the two it's Margarito/Mosley ALL THE WAY!!!

To me it's up there with the paper quality of the ticket and the hair color of the DJ, slightly below the color of the bouncer jacket at the afterparty.

As shitty as Ferrall is, his involvement isn't the real issue here (though it certainly shows the promotion's lack of sense) - the real issue is what looks to be competition from their 'partners' at Golden Boy.
Especially when the Affliction PPV is already looking shaky coming sandwiched inbetween UFCs 93 & 94.

"he real issue is what looks to be competition from their 'partners' at Golden Boy."
sounds like it could be a "keep your friends close and enemies closer" scenario on golden boys part.

The real issue is intelligent decision making. If they bungle something as simple as the ring announcer by hiring the worst one in the biz, how much deeper will it run when they're presented with problems that aren't so simple to deal with.

I thought I read an article that said Trump was leaving affliction. Then I thought I saw another one that said Showtime and affliction teaming up.
Would be great if the Showtime article was true.
