Dynamite!! 2008! K-1 WGP, K-1 MAX, K-1 Koshien & DREAM In One Card

It was announced earlier today at Akasaka in Tokyo that K-1 Dynamite!! 2008 will be held at the Saitama Super Arena on NYE. FEG President Sadaharu Tanigawa, DREAM event producer Keiichi Sasahara, and someone from TBS were all present.

Tanigawa said that there was an idea in the beginning of separating DREAM and K-1 into two events, but in the end it is was decided that K-1 WGP, K-1 MAX, K-1 Koshien and DREAM will all be on one card. He also said that he thinks that the card will be 15-20 fights long.

They also showed a movie at the press conference with the background music being from Star Wars.

17 fighters, who are all planned to participate, were present at the press conference:

DREAM: Joachim Hansen, Hayato “Mach” Sakurai, Kazushi Sakuraba, Shinya Aoki, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Mitsuhiro Ishida, Masakazu Imanari, Takeshi Yamazaki, Atsushi Yamamoto, Kuniyoshi Hironaka, Minowaman, Kiyoshi Tamura, Seichi Ikemoto (DEEP WW Champ), and Yuichi Nakanishi (DEEP MWGP Winner)
K-1 WGP: Musashi
K-1 MAX: Yasuhiro Kido and Yoshihiro Sato

Yoshihiro Sato proposed another fight with Masato, Aoki asked Akiyama if he would accept his challenge, and Sakuraba asked Yoshida if he would give him a fight.

Update: Besides the fighters present, Masato, Norifumi "KID" Yamamoto, Caol Uno, Hideo Tokoro, Masakatsu Funaki, Katsuyori Shibata, Junich Sawayashiki, Taishin Kohiruimaki, Mirko CroCop, Gegard Mousasi and Choi Hong Man were announced as participation candidates.

Update #2: Sakuraba's Yoshida comment seemed to be more like a joke or something maybe because Akiyama called Yoshida out at DREAM.6, so don't take it seriously.

Update #3: Sasahara said that negotiations with Akiyama and Fedor are currently ongoing.

Looks actually liken a big announcement, for a big upcoming event. Two things are bothering me so far though.

1. To less K-1, too much DREAM so far imo. Wish they would mix it up a bit more.

2. Looks somehow like a All-Japan Event. I wish it would be more international.

Nonetheless, i guess this will be a interesting event.

What is K-1 Koshien?

i think its a name of the u-18

they are trying to emulate the kosien high school baseball tournaemnt in japan
which is really popular and where alot of players are noticed

i think their is also a reality tv show for the baseball tournament
and that k-1 will also do a reality show like the baseball one for U 18

They said that they want just as many international fighters as Japanese. All the fighters that were there will not participate. Fighters like Ikemoto wouldn't bring any rating at all.

I think it's less K-1 because the finals are so close to the event.

Hansen vs Kawajiri please. Crocop vs Sawayashiki would be good also I think, that way Crocop can show us he can still handle a decent striker.

Monte Cox has said both DREAM and Sengoku are trying to get Tim Sylvia for their NYE shows but that he would like him to fight for Affliction in January.

Big Tim vs HMC would be epic.
