UFC President Dana White revealed several weeks back during the conference call announcing heavyweight champion Randy Couture’s return to the promotion that the company had discussed a possible three-part mini-series to promote Couture’s upcoming fight against Brock Lesnar at UFC 91 on Nov. 15.

HBO’s critically-acclaimed “24/7″ reality television documentary that was filmed to promote bouts between Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather and Mayweather vs. Ricky Hatton was cited as an inspiration for the project.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Sept. 15 print edition of the Wrestling Observer, White’s concept is on its way to becoming a reality as both Couture and Lesnar are reportedly being filmed for the upcoming project.

For those of you unfamiliar with "24/7" it is a documentary/reality show/pre-fight hype series that HBO used to promote the Floyd Mayweather/Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather/Ricky Hatton fights. The quality of the shows was outstanding in terms of bringing the fighters' characters to a wide audience and building intense anticipation for the fights. HBO will also be doing a 24/7 series for the upcoming Roy Jones Jr./Joe Calzaghe and Oscar De La Hoya/Manny Pacquiao fights.

IF Spike/Zuffa can get a film and editing crew that is comparable to the 24/7 team then this will certainly get even more buys. But so far even though the recent UFC fight preview shows have increased their quality and been more HBO Coundown-esque I doubt their final product will be as good as 24/7...it'll be interesting to see what happens.

24/7 is great stuff! I still watch episodes from the series now and then, just because of the atmosphere. (Actually, I thought the first series was more entertaining than the fight that followed it.)

I seriously recommend you to watch the De La Hoya/Mayweather one, even if you're not that into boxing.

I like how Dana White dissed HBO in a recent interview, saying that their boxing shows have looked the same for many years--and then Zuffa copies 24/7 ...

If HBO had anything half as innovative as a gladiator opening for the past 60 years he would be praising it instead.

Yeah 24/7 is great stuff. Its basically a once a week documentary of the events leading up to the fight. It shows the training and the home life of the fighters. So for Randy we will see all the superstars at Extreme Couture and for Brock we will see a few top fighters but a whole lot of Minnesota love.

They did the show before in the lead up to Mayweather/Oscar and Mayweather/Hatton. You can find them on the internet and I believe there is an episode in the Multimedia section in this forum.

The 24/7 shows were the best bit of TV promotion I think I have ever seen.
